tesla's birthday today, why isn't it a federal holiday?

why is Nikola Tesla's birthday not a federal holiday?
mention of his name affects national security :| 22%  22%  [ 2 ]

it just occurred to me that Nikola Tesla's birthday was today, and not a peep about it anywhere. what gives?

This is the first I heard about his birthday. Goes to show you, Tesla is still too obscure a historic person in this country to be recognized as this country's greatest scientist. It's indeed a historic farce that his nemesis, that fraud Thomas Edison, still eclipsis him.

it seems he had a lot of low-profile friends but even more high profile enemies. he was too advanced a spirit for this planet.

I think it's a shame that all those things that make our lives so much better and easier that we take for granted, that it isn't common knowledge who we have to thank for them. I wish their names were as prevalent in society as war leaders and celebrities and such. Examples to learn of and follow.

edit: that is actually my explanation why we don't talk about Tesla, or most other scientific/math/engineering ground breakers for that matter.

If Tesla's birthday becomes a national day of remembrance then so should Edison's birthday. Tesla brought us alternating current motors and generators. Edison was the first to build an entire electrical -system- consisting of generators, cables to carry the current and glow lamps to be lit up in the dark.

And while we are at it let us celebrate Marconi's birth. He brought us wireless telegraphy. And Cyrus Field who financed the first transatlantic telegraph table. This was the historical first internet system.

That is really too bad. In addition to bringing to the public alternating current motors and generators, Tesla was the true inventor of wireless communication. He developed FM broadcasting before Marconi developed wireless telegraphy. But Tesla never received a patent or proper credit.

I've noticed how Tesla had never pushed the issue of credit and recognition, outside of his justifiable anger at being cheated by Edison, and so I have to wonder if that's a big part of the problem, even today.
