A recent survey by the ministry of health suggests 500,000 young Australians between 10-19 are not fully vaccinated
Based on population estimates from the last census this represents 19% of all young people in Australia or 1 in 5 parents have chosen not to vaccinate their children

The primary reason for not vaccinating their child is the "fear" of contracting autism although there are other conspiracy theories that do the rounds

that sucks

Goes to show you, idiocy is not restricted to one nationality, as we have plenty of those parents in America, of course, who have the same irrational fear.

I guess that's one way to reduce overpopulation of the human race.

The number of people who are diagnosed with autism spectrum disorder (ASD) continues to rise in Australia. Autism, once considered rare, is now 31% of NDIS participants, the largest disability group in the scheme according to recent the NDIS Quarterly Report issued in June 2015.
A4 has been reporting substantial growth in the number of autism diagnoses for some time (see links below). In 2012, A4 observed that at least 1 in 63 Australian school children has a formal autism diagnosis and was registered to receive Carer Allowance (child).

In the largest-ever study of its kind, researchers again found that the measles-mumps-rubella (MMR) vaccine did not increase risk for autism spectrum disorder (ASD). This proved true even among children already considered at high risk for the disorder.

In all, the researchers analyzed the health records of 95,727 children, including more than 15,000 children unvaccinated at age 2 and more than 8,000 still unvaccinated at age 5. Nearly 2,000 of these children were considered at risk for autism because they were born into families that already had a child with the disorder.

The report appears today in JAMA, the Journal of the American Medical Association.
