The CIA just released to the public thousands of documents from the 2011 raid that killed Osama bin Laden. Included is bin Laden's personal journal. Unless you can read Arabic you won't be able to get much out of it at this point, but it's kind of remarkable that this is all being made available.

Not that I can read a word of it, but awesome that they are making it available. And the computer graphic is cool: how you can flip the pages. See the guys actual handwriting. Reminds me of the 1980 "Hitler Diary" that they found-which turned out to be a hoax- except that this is apparently real.

I found page 127 particularly disturbing. I'm also surprised he was such a bad speller.

I'll wait for the English language edition.

Here's his (Bin Laden's) story

early years - billionaire playboy, alcoholic, drug addict and womaniser

middle years - On the payroll of the US fighting the Russians in Afghanistan (got pocket money from Oliver North), helped from the Afghan mujahadeen who featured as heroes in Sylvster Stallone's Rambo movies

Later years -Got angry over the treatment of Saddam Hussein - disbanded the mujahadeen into the Afghan Taliban, he formed Al Qaeda and started bombing hotels in east Africa while resding in Sudan as practice run for 9-11

Final years after 2001 - A guest of the Pakistani government who gave him refuge while siphoning US aid money into terrorism

I thought Saddam Hussein and Bin Laden hated each other. The Iraqi dictator killed terrorists, as they were a threat to his rule, while Bin Laden hated Hussein because he saw such secular Middle Eastern leaders as the greatest stumbling block to Islamic theocratic rule.

His main reason for being anti-American (and anti-west) was his perception the "coalition of the willing" was a attempt by the west to occupy and overrun an muslim country (namely Iraq). After years of Russian occupation in Afghanistan the occuptation of Iraq seemed like betrayal. Basically any incursion of non-muslims into muslim countries seems to ignite jihad these days

I know Bin Laden made a stink about Iraq, though I wouldn't go so far as to say that he did it on Saddam Hussein's behalf. He was far more outraged about American troops on Saudi soil during the first Gulf war.

Ben Ladin returned to Saudi Arabia from Afghanistan at about the same time that Saddam Hussein invaded Kuwait.
Ben Ladin offered his services as a seasoned guerilla fighter to the rulers of Saudi Arabia to kick Saddam Hussien's ass.

But those rulers assured him that his services were not needed because the USA would do Saudi Arabia's fighting for them.

This reliance on a foreign power, and the subsequent lasting presence of the imperialist infidel USA in the Persian Gulf
at the behest of his country is what got BL angry at the corrupt ruling class of his own country. This later led him to be angry at the US, and to go down the path to terrorism.

The above is what you meant to say.

But what came out of your pen was the implication that: Ben Ladin was crying tears about how the US mistreated his bosom buddy Saddam Hussein (in fact the two always hated each other's guts).

So we will remember to use psychic powers to divine what you're trying to say next time!

I think you are overestimating public perception against common agendas. There is by no means overall consensus the two did not collaborate at different times to achieve a common goal. No doubt they saw each other as regional rivals but as things transpired they probably ended up seeing the US/coalition as a common enemy

It sounds like you're buying into the lies by the W. Bush administration that Iraq had something to do with 9-11 (lies spun in order to justify our invasion of Iraq).

Also you seem to be way off in your chronology. You seem to think that Bin Laden launched 9-11 in response to W's invasion of Iraq. Nine Eleven came first, THEN W invaded Afghanistan to get Ben Ladin, and THEN W used nukes and 9-11 as an excuse to launch his second invasion -the one against Saddam Hussein in Iraq.

I didn't tie down the timeline or chronology so that fits with 9-11

I was just saying that they were both on a wanted hitlist and were both Sunnis who had a blood fued with Shia fundamentalism

As it transpired they both met a grisly end along with brother in arms Gaddafi

During this period where they were being hunted it would make strategic sense for them to work together
