Autism alert card trialled in Essex

A card designed to help Autism sufferers in dangerous situations is being trialled in Essex.

Five hundred families with autistic children in Colchester will start using an alert card that has details of their condition and two contact numbers on it...

The idea's that the autistic child carries the card around and if they get into trouble then emergency workers will know they've got the condition - that stops them from communicating or interacting socially.

How come they call them 'sufferers' though?

There're gonna be professionals that won't be loud and won't ask you so many damned questions?

It would be a great excuse for an NT though.

This depends quite how it's used. If it's just for kids in school and stuff I don't see the problem but otherwise? I wouldn't think it's a good idea.

I see Autism as a gift.

I think the card is a good idea. Sometimes when things get too overwhelming, I act really crazy and can't speak so it would be great to whip out a photo ID card with an explanation. Hopefully it will move West into Buckinghamshire!
