Can't we, as Unionists, celebrate the UK (or what's left of it) as we see fit? I do not like the idea of government enforcing its idea of Britishness on us.

I dunno. However, it's better than a load of PC overhype with Christmas and all that.

We need to preserve and protect our own traditions. Our vision of Britishness is all different. I mean, you have the oh-so-plummy-English people down south, those who live deep in the Welsh valleys, the peoples of rural and urban northern England, all the people from the different parts of Scotland, the Unionists of Northern Ireland and the people who live in the overseas territories such as Gibraltar. Our Britishness is within us and is so varied. Homogenized keg Britishness will never work.

St. George & Merry England!
Trouble is too many of us English believe it is too un-PC to celebrate it.
I always raise a glass to him every 23rd April :)

I think... we should be celebrating our differences and learning from each other NOT trying to squash everyone into one way of thinking (because that is very dangerous)

ps. I recommend that everyone watch the movie: V for Vendetta

(hahaha... before they ban it  )

Why?

I'm not much of a patriot, but we're PC as it is thankyou very much.

We'll just have more complaints of immigrants (maybe illegal ones?) whining on about our cultural celebrations. Any excuse to get a lawsuit and a bit of money.

Sounds to me like this governments last desperate attempt to try and convince us that they are capable of recognising the presence of anyone other than the minorities.

If they didn't have a problem with not pandering to the PC-brigade, then they wouldn't need to come up with these half-baked ideas.

Indeed - and that is why we're all "British". There's no real differing thoughts and identities in this vision of Britain. It's limiting and obnoxious.

I am proud of my family, pub, area, town, borough, county, country and Union. Not just what NooLab wants me to be proud of.
