Is this really how they are going to define personhood now? Anything with a heartbeat is deserving of human rights?

Well ... a mosquito also has a heart. Can't they come up with a definition of personhood which is more scientifically rigorous? Doesn't personhood come from neurological complexity?

Personhood comes from being human. The unborn child, no matter what name one chooses to call him or her to cope better, is human. It's a coping mechanism to reduce a human to cells or compare human to insect and whatever, but it's also disingenuous.

I'm not arguing against a woman's right to choose. But against trying to avoid the fact that the unborn child is a human being.

I believe that a person conceived should become a person.

Even though I’m “pro choice.”

This is why nobody wants to live in the Heartland or Deep South, thus, why cost of living is low.

Your personal feelings are pro-life, but you don't believe you, or anyone, has the right to push those feelings on anyone else. That a sensible position. My ex-girlfriend, and one good female friend, hold that position also -- the latter being a Christian, the former an atheist.

While I don’t think abortion is appropriate in *every* situation, I can’t support these heartbeat bills. North Dakota had such a law, and it was struck down.

I think this is just a ploy to rile the evangelical voters.

Update: Gov. Kim Reynolds signed it into law.
