This is the type of violence that the trump administration is inciting with its racist rhetoric - most of which comes from trump himself.

Yes, she is. But the said thing is that there are many, many, more turds like her.. and as things get ever more heated in American politics, more of these types of people are going to snap and act out in violence. :/

I can't believe there's not more to the story. What was the first person who she thought looked Mexican that she's seen since 2016? Then she suddenly decides to run her over?

Probably, she just hadn't gotten the guts up to actually carry out a violent crime until that moment. But since she admitted to the crime and even gave 'she was mexican' as the motive doesn't seem to leave much more to the story.

Mental illness or not, the fact that Trump has whipped up Anti-Latino, racist hysteria that it's unlikely that this would have happened without it.

I'm hoping the subsequent comment "'There is no place in our community (or any other) for this kind of hatred and violence'" is not just "lip service" (insincere). If it's anything like my workplace it's lip service.

We can try to pretend that the xenophobic and racist hate that seems to be polluting the minds of so many Americans of a certain political persuasion isn't at all relevant, but all we'll be doing is playing make-believe. As usual, some posters here will attempt to obscure and deflect from reality, but that seems to be par for the course when this topic is discussed.

Trump is directly responsible for feeding the existing anti-hispanic attitudes that Mexicans are i) illegally entering the US ii) causing an increase in crime and iii) taking jobs from Americans

Mentioning his name in this thread is relevant since the woman (regardless of whether she has a mental illness) watches the news and his words reinforced her decision for her actions.

According to the American Psychological Association - Trump supporters are psychologically more likely predisposed to obedience to authority (the same psychological phenomenon that led to Hitler's rise to power in Germany) and his words carry weight with his supporters.

Trump may think he can tweet whatever he wants about Mexicans, black lives matter, s**thole countries but his words as POTUS carry consequences.

It’s socially acceptable in large areas of America to be prejudiced against individuals from Mexico and countries further south. To be fair, this has been thriving long before Trump came in office although I’m sure he stirred things up.

Most people wouldn’t approve of hitting a Mexican kid with their car, though.

This is not necessarily anti-Trump.

It speaks of racial and ethnic prejudice which might not anything to do with Trump, per se.

It’s not Emmitt Till. But we MUST stop potential Emmitt Tills from occurring.
