This is about the stupidest thing I've seen recently.
Middle school students get 5 days in juvie for slapping girls on the rear end. They face imprisonment and being branded as sex offenders for life.
What's the world coming to?

Sexual harrassment, maybe, but abuse? Ridiculous. It's inappropriate, sure, but there are plenty of ways by which more harm could be done.....

If convicted, it will mean that America is full of juvenile sexual offenders, and probably has more than any other country has ever encountered.

I recall a time, not so long ago, when this would have garnered a telling-off from staff, and perhaps mild punishment.. a detention perhaps. This sort of thing was fairly standard at school, and out of the 1200 students in my year alone, I am not aware of any individual becoming any sort of sex offender.

Treating kids like that.. well, its liable to screw them up in any number of ways.

Oregon state has a very curious idea of what sexual abuse actual constitutes. (And they are so not alone.)

how such ridiculus cases actually happends, i dont know.
and how could somthing that "all the other kids do" get him trown in jail? this just shows how f*cked up the american system of "freedom and justice for all" is. i agree with the fact that he shouldnt be doing it, but trowning him in jail and labeling him as a sex ofender at the age of 13 is a bit like shooting sparrows with cannons, right?

I'm sure a jury will decide if its ridiculous or not. The individuals involved could be sociopathic predators.

Great. This is happening in my state too. Sheesh. America is falling apart to illegal immigration, political correctness, and overall increasing stupidity of the law.
People in America don't realize how much power they have. About 70% of Americans want immigration reform and socialized healthcare. So what do we do? We sit around and wait for government officials to take care of it for us. It's pointless, because they don't want to do anything about it. Americans are afraid to protest anything, when in France they protest all the time. The government was made to serve the people, but instead, the spineless American people have let the government become some sort of seperate entity. That is the reason why this kind of thing is happening.

Something like this shouldn't ever have to be decided by a jury or go in front of a judge. In court even if you win the case you still lose a ton of money. Good lawyers aren't cheap. Getting registered as a sex offender would be about the worse fate because it will follow you forever. And for what?
This is insane!! !! !!

The school should have handled it themselves. They have no business calling the police on their own students, for something so trivial. It's their job to maintain discipline. Not to terrorize the kids.

S'no sense. I think there all Just a bit mixed up about age. Because someone posed an article on ehre about a boy two years younger taking a girl to a secluded park and raping her, and the judge said he couldn't possibly have known what he was doing...thats rape, and this is a seriously just a case of boys being boys, nothing serious!

Plus it means fewer police resources to investigate the more serious cases. It's not good that the boys did this but hardly any justification to call the law upon them.
