I think it's painfully obvious that the parents don't view their daughter as being human. They think of her as a possession, like a pet.

While that may well be true, I am conflicted about this. There are simply too many variables to consider, too many "What ifs."

They cut off my foreskin so I don't see why they can't take out her uterus.

You're comparing apples and oranges.

If you prefer a real argument, here it is.

Taking out her uterus will:

A. Make her stomach flatter.
B. Not ruin her ability to enjoy sex.
C. Prevent the state from having to provide medical care to her mentally challenged offspring.
D. Prevent the need for abortions.
E. Keep her from getting cancer of the uterus.

All of your reasons apply to all female children. Does this mean all parents should be allowed to remove their children's' uteri?

You forgot to list that it will also keep her from having to deal with the hell that is menstruation, which I believe is the parents' main motivation in this case. I find it interesting that this topic is being debated only by males in this thread.

But you can file charges (or whatever) against your abusers, theoretically.

Actually my lawyer said I can't because I'd have to show that the medical consensus at the time was that circumcision was a bad thing which would be incredibly difficult; otherwise it would be hard to show negligence or harmful intent.

Also, shame on you for wishing the evils of menstruation on this poor woman.

This is a tough moral issue. It hits the grey area of eugenics a bit. I don't understand these parents who willingly have children with horrendous mental disabilties, then because they are rightly terrifed of the idea of a sexually mentally challenged human, they get all these medical procedures done so the kid basically stays stunted in a kid's body forever. It seems kind of messed up to me. The only thing that make's the parent's decision redeemable to me is that the child will suffer less discomfort both physically and psychologically.

It's a tough moral issue but at the end of the day I'd have to say that the parents are in the wrong. It's just a bit too creepy for me and sets a bad precedent.

Would periods really be confusing for this girl? What if she wanted to have kids one day? It's irreversible, the girl would not thank her mother for being genitally mutilated in the end.

I agree. There's something that makes me feel very uneasy about this - which is why I hope that the parents do not succeed.

If this happened in the US i don't think it would have been so controversial. What use is her uterus to her if she can't even ever use it, let alone have to deal with all the hormones involved? I think if the daughter can somehow convey to her mother that she wants this done, then there shouldn't be even a problem with it. If she is unable to communicate this information, then I think the parents should be allowed to weigh the costs and benefits of the hysterectomy with the medical community.

"They cut off my foreskin so I don't see why they can't take out her uterus."

These are different issues as a circumcision does not prevent childbirth or affect hormones, and a
hysterectomy will prevent childbirth and if it is a full hysterectomy (ie the uterus and overies are removed) will cause a hormonal shift.
