Quote:
BBC's Blunder

The British Broadcasting Corporation has acknowledged further inaccuracies in its coverage of Mideast violence.

Last week the BBC apologized for wrongly reporting that the home of a Palestinian gunman who killed eight Israelis at a rabbinical seminary — was destroyed by an Israeli bulldozer. In fact — the house is still standing and the images broadcast were of another demolition.

But in a second news item on its Web site on March 14 — the BBC reported that U.N. Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon condemned an Israeli operation against Kassam rocket-launch sites in Gaza — and described it as an attack on Palestinian civilians.

As it turns out — Ban's attributed comments were made to the U.N. Security Council two weeks before the Israeli operation — and were not in reference to any particular attack. In fact — the secretary general did not describe any Israeli operation as an attack on civilians.

Oops! Looks like the BBC was mistakenly anti-Semitic to the point of lying in its news coverage about Israel once, and indeed twice again, since the last time this happened, when their internal audit revealed a bias against Israel in practice in their news reporting.
That's three strikes.

I believe that Israel has abused its power in some instances (just like every other country on Earth), but I also believe that the media is unfair to Israel sometimes. Like now.

The us news media was complicit in covering up Israel's actions, like attacking the USS Liberty, the Massacre at Deir Yassin and the Sabra/Shatilla massacre to the extent that many Americans still view Israel as innocent victims when, in fact, it was the founding Fathers of Israel who initiated the use of Political terrorism in the Palestine Mandate in the 1930's.

Ignoring the falsehoods in your post, including the assumption that the U.S. is unduely cooperative with Israel -- which is, after all, a fellow democracy, and the most civilized country in the Middle East by a good margin -- are you saying that this alleged overfriendliness toward Israel by the U.S. means that the BBC should "even the score", so to speak, by making up outright lies and airing them as news?

Why do the people of Britain deserve to be lied to?

I suppose I take it for granted that anything I read in a modern news source must be taken with a great deal of salt. . .

I never said that the Brits should be lied to. I stated that the US News media quickly buried the story of the USS Liberty being attacked. Deny that the attack happened if you want, but it did. The news media also never bothered mentioning Americas "special relationship" with Israel back in the 1970s when the Oil embargo was happening. While the Munich Massacre has been very much in the public eye, the Sabra and Shatilla massacres have not. The story of Sabra and Shatilla was quickly buried right after it happened. Deny it happened if you want. Dier Yassin is another incident that is overlooked in explaining the birth of Israel and subsequent Arab hostility. How many Americans are even aware that the Irgun and Lehi terror organizations existed, or that they bombed the King David Hotel on July 22 1946. Do you deny that these incidents happened? Do you deny that at least two Israeli Prime Ministers, Menachim Begin and Yitzhak Shamir were members of terror organizations? Yeah, I got it , Israel is an innocent, put upon country that has done no wrong, and the US news media shows no Bias as indicated by Bernard Goldberg in his book titled "Bias".

Which of the specific incidents are you denying happened Ragtime? Are you claiming bias on the part of the BBC and, at the same time denying it happens with US news media? Did Bernie Goldberg tell a bunch of whopping lies in his book Bias?

For a much more complete account of the Liberty Incident the book "Assault on the Liberty" by James Ennes details exactly why the survivors of the attack don't believe the official account that Israel gave. The author of the book was a Junior Officer who was on the Liberty when it was attacked. One of the things that sticks out as being highly irregular is that Captain William McGonagle did not receive his Medal Of Honor from the President of the United States at the White House as is customary. Instead he received it in private ceremony from the Secretary of the Navy. Anyone who has been in the military, or knows anything about military protocol, will immediately grasp just what a slap in the face that is.

Well oddly enough my Psychology teacher was just discussing how modern news sources don't bother to fact-check anymore. So what really happens, and what the public hears are often 2 very different things.

There's no end to the list of Israeli war crimes. To be fair, I'm not against the concept of Jews settling down in the Levant, I'm against the concept of Zionism - a Jewish state. I think the one-state solution is the only way out of the current situation, but most Israelis will not accept it, as if it is implemented, the Jews will become a minority in a decade or so due to a low birth rate among them.

Btw, most news agencies are controlled by the News Corporation. I noticed a LOT of heavy censoring in the news. For example, after Benazir Bhutto's assassination, the B.B.C. was having a live telephone conversation with one of B.B.'s closest associates (who was with her when she was assassinated), and the moment she accused Pervez Musharaff of a cover up, the B.B.C. disconnected her citing "technical snags", and the connection was never re-established. Independent news agencies such as Al Jazeera are opposed outright by various western governments.

I'm sorry Ragtime, but with your avatar and the mention of BBC News only makes me think of the Monty Python sketch News for Parrots. Sigh.

See: Reality.

Arabs serve in the Israeli Parliament, for crying out loud. Many Arabs also have mansions in Israel, and get along quite comfortably in the Israeli business world. (Certainly more comfortably than in any other area of the Middle East.) Arabs are by no means excluded from any process in Israel, other than having their children kill themselves while blowing up buses, restaurants, discotechs, etc. Take your progranda b.s. elsewhere, please.
The "Palestinians" want Israel simply because it is now the best developed country in the Middle East -- by far. Why? Because the Jews spent the last 60 years building it up to its present, modern level of efficiency and power, and of being a top world competitor in several crucial medical and technological industries, among others.

"Peace will come to the Middle East when the Arabs love their children more than they hate us."
-Golda Meir
