That is impressive.

I had a great (or great-great?) grandmother live to 108, though I never met her.

Wow! I know somebody just a few years younger but it's not as impressive! 8O

Why in hell would anyone want to live that long?

Interestingly, she lives in Indiana. The tallest woman in the world does as well. 8)

"There are only 75 people alive -- 64 women and 11 men -- who are 110 or older, according to the Gerontology Research Group, an Inglewood, Calif.-based group that verifies reports of extreme ages."

That'll be people provably old then. There are endless reams of ancient folk knocking around the world.. they just can't provide paperwork that proves it because they live in a hut up a mountain in tibet or wherever. Just being able to say "I remember that Mr Lincoln. Such a tall fellow" isn't enough.

If there were a way to detect age without killing the subject, then research into longevity would make great leaps forward. Of course if we spent as much time looking after our old folks as we do making them go blind then refusing to pay them, it would go much further as well.

Wow, imagine living that long. 8O I'm not sure if it would be a blessing or a curse; probably a bit of both, I suspect.

While it is amazing and impressive to see that somebody has lived that long, I certainly wouldn't want to. Think how much her world has changed in over a hundred years! All her loved ones and friends may well have died by now. I wouldn't want to be "blessed" that way.

What a sweet old lady, good for her! I am not sure why they are trying to locate a longevity gene, why would someone want to live that long when you most likely have to give up your independence, you would have to be looked after.

When I get so old that I am unable to take care of myself I think that will be the right time to die for me.

She's in my 2008 Dead Pool. Had I realised she was that healthy I wouldn't have bothered.

Impresive, although she's still got a long way to go to beat methuselah.
