Freaking awesome.

Autism Speaks is the reason I have to fight people to believe my daughter even HAS an ASD. During a meeting with the school district recently I was told that "she must have it mild" and they didn't "see anything wrong with her" during our 30 minute meeting (which wasn't about debating her diagnosis, it was about getting her services for OT).

Autism Speaks perpetuates the idea that children with autism can't stop flapping and/or screaming long enough to be polite during a meeting. It can be done, it's just ten times harder getting there. My kids don't appear well-mannered because they don't have autism, they are they way they are because of hard work on my part to help them understand social situations, etc. But Autism Speaks is out there perpetuating the stereotypes so I have to keep encountering morons who are clueless.

Yeah, I saw that...and predicted the enthusiasm around here.

If Autism Speaks bothers you guys so much, you seriously should just get organized, calibrate a sympathetic media strategy, and mount a counteroffensive.

I do graphic arts and web design. My sister is really good at filming too.

We could start our own Autie site. Autism ACTUALLY speaks.com. Since we are auties, we ought know what our own dang life is like.

We could tottaly do our own web/media campaign. YouTube baby!

It's a list of the most INFLUENTIAL people.

For god's sake it also has Muqtada al-Sadr and Baitullah Mehsud in the list.

Time isn't making a comment on ethics.

the main problem on that subject is that we need $$$$$$, which not everyone has.

They're in the company of Stephen Colbert for chrissakes That isn't right! shame on TIME!

Yes, Autism Speaks IS on my On Notice board. Now TIME is.

MY ON NOTICE BOARD
Ted McGinley
REO Speedwagon
FOX Business Channel
Autism Speaks
Uwe Boll
TVFreeXBox.com
Matthew Lesko
Bears
The RIAA
TIME Magazine.

I hope they're happy.

In other news, I'd really like to get some sort of petition up for Alex to be eligible (or something, dunno how you can be nominated or why the Autism "Speaks" folks got in, but there has to be a way to vote Alex in.)
