racism is discriminating against someone's race, which for some f**ked up reason also includes religion. if i said a certain religion should be wiped off the earth i would be classed as racist even though any race could be part of that religion.
see where things start to get complicated?
maybe if we classed hair colour as a race things would get simpler

some kid i knew of at school went on a german exchange and shouted "hail hitler" and did the salute whilst at the dinner table, and when he returned he was expelled from school even though what happened took place in another country
he did what he did because he thought it would be funny, not because he wanted to offend anyone, just because he saw humour in the situation without fully understanding what hitler did or even who he was.
kids these days don't put enough thought into everyday life and so these sorts of things will always appen. if i decided to put together a 'kick the crap out of bullies' day i'm pretty sure i'd have a lot of people on my side and that a lot of people would agree with it butthen again a child/adult can decide whether they want to be an a**ehole whereas no one can choose their gender or hair colour.

Well being Jewish, I can understand why there would be a desire to react like
to that situation. If they kid didn't understand though, the kid didn't understand. I think Germany really is afraid of being associated with their horrible past regarding Hitler, so they freaked out on the kid. All in all, it was a bad situation for everyone involved.

Perhaps that indicates a huge hole in his education, if he thinks its funny to do that in Germany, and doesn't understand why its a bad thing.

well if the school has students like that i'm guessing they didn't teach himk what they should have, either that or he ditched school or didn't pay attention. to a certain degree i think there should be more detention facilities for kids like him, put the 'bullies' in a prison like area so the innocents can enjoy school rather than grow to despise it.
