used to cut alot and im NOT emo and so yeah....SH nothing to do with emo.
A lot of people get pretty confused about the term "emo", including me! I agree with MyDogSasha about self-injury not being related to being "emo". The term doesn't bother me so much unless it's used in context of self-harm, because self-harm is serious and an addiction and not attention seeking. I don't like the way that some people refer to self-harm as being "emo" as well as referring to it being "cool", "hardcore" or "stupid and attention seeking". And that's really the only problem I have with the term, because I really do hate it when people say things like that, considering that I self-harm and wish that I didn't but it's the only way I can cope with things, and considering that I've attempted suicide and it was certainly not a fashion statement.
Just wanted to make it clear that I don't really think the term is related to the serious issues self-injury, depression and suicide, or at least that these things shouldn't be judged in that way.
Lots of people do use the term to describe a fashion style or a genre of music, and I have nothing wrong with that at all. Emo is a style of music and I don't have anything against any style of music- everybody has their own preferences. Emo fashion seems to involve the usual dark clothes and long fringes and hair, as well as dark make-up- and again I almost like that and it's a type of individuality.
I don't like the term emo when people are talking about depression, suicide, self-harm or any of those things. I don't like the fact that there are so many misunderstandings about these things, mainly because of this.
But like somebody else said, it's not even a proper word, so I think we should just avoid getting too upset about it

There will always be things in the world we don't agree with.
I do think that there are too many misunderstandings especially about self-harm but I think that can be changed by making people more aware. It's not an attention-seeking behaviour, or if it is only in very rare cases, and most self-harmers will do anything to hide their scars. Many are ashamed of it but can't find any other way to cope.
Watch this, it explains self-harm a bit more.

Be careful though, it could be what some might call "triggering."
