Does anyone else have a problem with cutting themselves? I've been doing it a lot lately and can't seem to stop.

Yes I do it a lot when I'm depressed. I have no idea why I do it because I can't even feel anything when I do it. I have no idea how to stop, it's like a compulsion.

I used to be a cutter, my arms are pretty scarred up even though they are faded.

I used to, a bit. I've only done it three or four times, and I haven't for a couple years. I still think about it a lot though.

If you want to stop, I think that the best method is to set up a "buddy system," so to speak. Whenever you start wanting to cut, tell someone. You probably want to set up something like this ahead of time with someone you can trust not to freak out on you. If there is a reason you want to cut, talk about it. In the case of lack of a person to talk to, journal. If you don't trust anyone enough to tell them that you are a cutter, just get away from sharp objects. Go for a walk or hang out in a coffee shop or something. My favorite technique for preventing self-harm is to come up with excuses. For example, "I would cut/hurt/whatever myself if such and such wasn't the case." I can get away with pretty lame excuses, because it never became a habit for me. I don't know if this sort of thing would work for you.

Point two. How do I say this? ... I think it is part of human nature to want to destroy things. The fact that you don't turn that "instinct," so to speak, outwards, at other people and objects, demostrates that, to put it somewhat cornily, you are a good person.

I'm not saying exactly what I mean. PM me if you want clarification.

ohhhhhh yes. I have had trouble with that. And read lots of theories about it. For me it's terribly complex.

It can sometimes be something of an addiction.

"stopping" seems to be a personal thing, like it varies what works for who...cuz cutting is like that to begin with.

Lemme know if you would like to further converse about it ever.

I'm not a cutter myself, but I recently had a dream in which everyone around me was cutting themselves, as some sort of way to get high, as far as I could tell. As the dream went on, I tried to get them to stop, but they wouldn't. In fact, the dream ended with them cutting me. There was blood all over the place, and it was very painful, and when I woke up, I was very disturbed by it.

I used to cut myself, my legs would be all bloody and I never got any help I just stopped one day. Most the time I cut myself when I was being picked on, or I was around people who picked on me, they hated it, it scared them so I kept on and on.

I have a problem with cutting others' throats, especially people who are asking for it.
