I'm starting to find I hate pretty much anything that breathes in my general direction, particularly NTs and Aspies. NTs, those of you who know me, well, I don't need to go into that explanation.

But now I'm finding Aspies and Autistics just as annoying, if not more.

All I see here on this forum are people who expect the NT world to adapt to serve us, or understand us better. Why is it that we are supposed to be held to a different standard? Why are we supposed to embrace being different, and shout it out with some kind of pride?

As I've said before, I see Asperger's as an advantage, weeding out unnecessary social aspects of the human mind for better, more productive qualities. However, that doesn't mean I would jump up and down with joy about my weaknesses. If there is a weakness, it must be beaten out of you, and your body hardened to tolerate pain. You must adapt or die.

A man my father knew who lost one arm while working on an outboard motor on a speedboat didn't take pride in the loss of his limb. Instead, he adapted, and strengthened his remaining arm to the point he could lift a man with it.

What kind of example of the best of humanity are we setting if we want to take pride in our weaknesses? That's not pride! That's spinning a defeat into something it isn't.

Furthermore, even with Aspie traits, I'm finding the same qualities in Aspies which disgust me just as equally, if not more so, in NTs, particularly within my own age range. The only way I can see this situation being corrected is if I could find someone worthy of what little standards I have for friendship, and who would stand for basic decency amongst one's peers without the need to fit in to be an equal.

thats pretty comprehensive!

sounds like a projective form of hate imo.

Often i feel a very strong rejection (cant find the right word atm) by something thats said on here, particularly from the angry younger members. Then i remind myself that i used to share a similar views, and have probably said the exact same thing at some point. It takes a bit of effort, but then helps me get some perspective and to be more acceptive of others views.

Neurodiversity is about taking pride in the way we are- working on our strengths and coming to peace with our weaknesses.

After all, who knows that a person's biggest weakness doesnt become their greatest strength one day?

And I would like it if NTs understood us better. It would be incredibly helpful.

Most who are 'proud to have Asperger's Syndrome' have no idea what there is to be proud about. Is an Aspergean to walk around being proud that he has hardly any social abilities inherently? Is it pride-worthy to have a personality defect?

It's not. Unless you're a simpleton. When it comes to AS, the only pride you need is when you RISE VICTORIOUSLY OVER THE SYMPTOMS.

But we have these people who aren't interested in rising above anything, and are proud to be socially defective. Why? They're simpletons. :?

I know what you mean about Aspies/Auties being just as, if not moreso annoying than NT's. It's gotten to the point that I actually prefer spending time with neurotypicals. It's sad that it had to come to that. The stupidity of posters on screwy forums like these are to blame. But at the same time, without WrongPlanet.net, my journey wouldn't have been as... enlightening.

Why do you think that is? What is it about you that makes you hate pretty much anything that breathes in your general direction?

The whole key is to compensate for your weaknesses by developing your strengths:You have nothing to gain by wallowing in your weaknesses and nothing to lose by developing your strengths.

I may not have the ability to be a live wire salesman. But I had the social skills necessary to interact with patients in a nursing home when I worked as a CNA. I may not be able to exercise the same kind of social ability that a high level manager at Ernst & Young may have(not that it wouldn't be nice to have): But I would have the capability to help someone 's startup business with the books and accounting. The key is you will know what your area is because you will have a natural fit for it.

It's not about the pride that goeth before a fall, it's about gaining self-respect in spite of being called all kinds of names for years for tendencies you're born with. Everybody has some weaknesses they're born with. These can be strengthened or gotten around. The existing strengths can be made stronger and applied. We're not some superior human, for goodness' sake.

And yes, we can be as irritating as the worst accusations thrown at NTs. Being petty, selfish, greedy, dishonest, conceited and snotty have nothing to do with AS. It has everything to do with an immature attitude based in ignorance and a lack of emotional development. AS is not an immunization against inexperience in life. It's a difference in the balance and timing of emotional and logical functioning in the brain.

For example, do you think we're all "honest to a fault"? HAH! I can lie so well no one can tell it if I focus hard enough on it. I've done it. I have lied to avoid facing painful truths, to satisfy my pride, to fake knowing something I didn't so I could fit into a conversation, to help a friend get even with some nasty people and to cover my @$$ at work, among other times. The only one I enjoyed was helping my friend get even. I'd do it again in a hearbeat - I love my friends. The rest pissed me off. I don't bother with it anymore because I gave it a fair chance and it didn't work.

I'll be damned. We really are human, aren't we?

All I know is I have weaknesses that many around me do not have, and I have a few strengths that I find rair in others around me. I use what tools I have, and try to work on a few weaknesses whenever possible and throughout the 25 years I have lived on this spinning rock I remain relativly sharp, yet much more in tune socally to others, I fit in much better then when I was young, I have friends I have had for many years and now my biggest concern or weakness is the date scene and im proud to say for the first time in my life I have found a little success in that arena.

I too agree with you that we should not expect the world to change for us, we must adapt to survive, and we can use our strangths to do this while working on our weakness, afterall we do have our whole lives ahead of us to do so.

I know a bit of how you feel, though it has never been a hatred like what you feel, and I have been guilty of the sins you speak of myself. Hope that sentence made sense.
I've actually been reading a book about unwritten social rules and I'm planning to look into kinesics. You do have a good philosophy. But this is the type of thing you'll find in a support forum...

I don't understand the whole "pride" bit myself. It's like with gay people saying "Oh my god, look at us, we're proud to be gay." It just seems to be rhetoric to get accepted, because there's really nothing there to be proud of.

Peoples sometimes cannot help but be negative when they have their weaknesses thrown in their face all the time by the peeps around them, and it happens so often that they end up thinking"stuff it I might as well accept it."
sometimes support forums are just giant whine sessions. People can get stuff off their chests like u r doing now.
I do feel the irritation that you feel sometimes. Other times i just feel ashamed of myself for being what i am, like i should not exist at all(stupid is it not?). I am hopeless at the being fake to be nice person. i can withhold what i truly think in conversations (if i have to) but i am not one of those peoples that can hide every aspect of who they truly are.

Hate... Your hate is... warm. Like a summer breaze... Hate... Hate is a thing born of humans. Eliminate the humans, and you eliminate the hate... But... I don't know... Is hate a good thing or bad? Imagine a world with no hate... And you imagine a world with no humans. Which is... not an unattractive notion; but I cannot explain why.

What about physically disabled people? You don't see many people telling them "just learn to walk, you lazy bastard!" now, do you? No, NT society is perfectly happy to accomadate to them and their needs. Everywhere you look, there's wheelchair ramps, special lifts, disabled toilets, wider checkout lanes at supermarkets, the list goes on. Now I'm not saying that us aspies have it as bad as physically disabled people, nor am I saying that society needs to cater to our every need just like they do for them as well, I'm just trying to say that it wouldn't kill everyone to be a little more understanding towards us.
