Am I missing out on something?

Should I feel envious?

Or is Fishing code for something else a bit like dogging?

Neither have I. I find fishing for sport to be unnecessarily cruel.

Going out on a boat to fish could be quite relaxing for some people.

To enjoy it, you probably shouldn't give a crap about the fish's suffering, or at least consider it a fair consequence of losing the game of life, by meeting a predator and failing to escape it.

People can enjoy quite heartily a fish's agony as it desperately tries to break free using its only weapon (its jaws in the case of a piranha) and draw one more breath.



I can't really make it out, but, just before the last bite, someone seems to say, in Spanish, "¿Ya? ¿Ya? ¿Se está asfixiando?" ('Now? Now? Is it suffocating yet?').

They probably cooked and ate it next.

If I ever went, it would have to be a catch and release contest with others as I don't care much for seafood.

Fishing is nice only if the fish doesn't care and continues swimming, so the fisherman continues to sleep happily and the fish continues to swim happily.

Yeah....that's my version of "good fishing", too.

I fish 4-5 days a week in the summer for about an hour or two a pop. I'm not a sport fisherman, I eat what I catch, it's my main supply of protein. I don't have any great love or excitement of it, it's merely an aspect of life for me. Some people go apeshit wild over it though, just like hunting, no idea why but they do. As for dogging I believe that's a UK slang term for having sex in a public place.

I once lived in small community where folks would take the day off when the fish were running--there were huge schools of highly edible fish close to shore. I wonder if that still happens anywhere today?

I don't fish because like all autistic, i don't care of how i appear. I don't need it , i don't manipulate.
The ones fishing, they fish in order to know how to project a more "reliable" image of their self, an image they can use under "assumed" appearance of innocence, who is really innocent, i don't know. I think some fish, they laugh a lot at the innocence of the fishermen/women sometimes. But a good fish will usually not tell the fisherman:"i know you are not a fish" (it's too dangerous, so they just laugh and know. Also fishes are not so stupid animal you know! They see veeery good that the fishermen are not fish, no no no mistake possible
