These damn North Koreans are threatening the US again
I am young and have no experience, so I'm really afraid to die, and North Korea's warning rhetoric is making me anxious and feeling sh-tty. I literally can't stand the thought of dying so young, especially alone. I left religion because it's thoughts about perishing on Earth into a better place in death hasn't swayed me. Christians even want to push that thought on me. And my parents are against it and tell me I shouldn't worry. Why are people so bigoted and skeptical about this stuff? I feel alone in that I am afraid to die and that I'm going to be alone in life and in death. I have even been told by a Christian that I was satanic and stuff.
Hi K_Kelly,
Just because someone claims to be a Christian doesn't mean they're a good one, or that you can trust them. I say this as a believer in God. It sure sounds like you came across a nasty one, and I'm sorry you experienced that.
As for North Korea ... I do think they intend to do us harm. And yes, as a matter of fact, it is my religious faith that helps me deal with things like this.
In any case, I hope you won't feel so alone.
They need to keep the rhetoric of fear alive in North Korea to control the population.... Seems like their opposition over the last few years has used a similar approach... ( thats just my point of view).. The world in effect is a political/ecenomic chess game and the people are the pawns... These sorts of things have been going on for centuries, only now with internet we hear about them almost instantly... Nothing to be alarmed about just politicians being pigeon chested! ![]()
The North Korean government poses a much greater threat to its own people than to the West, if you ask me. If they did try and start anything I'm fairly confident that the South could take them out easily unless China came to their defence, whoich doesn't seem very likely in the current political climate.

Man, talking about fear from dying by a sudden military/bombing attack, it's good that you're not living where I live...
At least you live in somewhere where you have real defenses, some don't have this luxury.
However....I would understand the nuke concerns:
http://nationalinterest.org/blog/the-bu ... eles-15060
Intercepting a nuke isn't easy.
China will keep them on their short leash, they are both useful and a nuisance to China, I've read quite a bit on what is likely to follow if they ever put a nuke somewhere and what the implications would be and it'd be short and nasty, they are an irrational outfit running that ghoulish factory state but there is a method to the madness that goes on there, why would they risk their house of twisted cards coming down upon themselves... they can risk pushing things a little further because they do possess incredibly dangerous weapons these days that may or may not become more problematic as time goes on but if I remember correctly they can't reach the united states yet because they don't have an effective delivery system but they could definitely hit Japan and obviously south korea which are probably their number 1 and 2 targets to attempt to bully. They are most likely not going to launch anything but it's concerning that they have the ability to scream and shout, they are a toddler to everyone but it's like they now brandish a knife they COULD throw at somebody.
Unfortunately they do have a delivery system, they have been trying to miniaturise their nuclear capabilities... Subs are the answer to their resolve .... but its all a farce. As i mentioned fear and anger is used to control the mass ( also fear and anger are two emotions that on an emotional scale can top all others!) due to the real risk of a revolution.. Their tactics have got worse over the years towards their own people because technology is becoming much easier to access. So by increasing the fear and having public executions especially of high ranking officials. No one will dare say or do anything because it will effect their entire family lineage... So by enforcing the fear, anger and blaming it on foreign countries they are keeping the mass controlled on a very fine line.... After the initial conflict between North and south, the north after the ceasefire carried on at pace with the military growth exponentially, while the south took a different approach and joined the world and looked towards peace..... So seems North made a decision based on an expected reciprocal attack and now that it seems obvious that isn't going to happen from the view of the south all the north can do is to keep its people in the war mindset, because basically they made a decision and cocked it up!... Even saying this, the west has also taken the approach of using fear and anger to control the mass but in their case they are actively at war with those they blame.... As for china i can only say as speculation at this point that their association with NK has a whole lot more cons than pros in this present day and are at somewhat of a stalemate themselves on what to do.... So if NK did anything brash i don't think they will have the support of the nations like they had some years ago... So NK cant attack and i think know this... They are basically at imploding point with no other option but to seek peace, but doing this will end up showing the truth to its people, whom i don't think are going to be too impressed with what they have been force fed as what is truth... and this would then cause a collapse of government.... They in effect have now put themselves in a complete stale mate with only one solution they cant approach, that will end up in internal conflict and the fall of an outdated and barbaric regime... Rhetoric is the only real weapon they have left. ( just my thoughts and possible theory simplified)
Dont worry yourself K_Kelly!

Though South Korea is physically smaller it has twice the population of North Korea.
But American folks talk about North Korea like its a continental sized super power (like China, Russia, or the European Union) in the same weight class as the USA. Probably because they have watched "Red Dawn" one too many times.
In the 1984 movie Red Dawn North Korean paratroopers manage to conquer and occupy the entire contiguous USA.
North Korea is a poor starving destitute nation of 24 million people the size of a US state, and could not possibly put the whole USA under military occupation even if the USA wanted it to!
But despite its poverty the dictator forces the few resources and little manpower they have into the military sector. So they do have a pathologically large war machine for their small size, and are now starting to build nukes.
But IF they ever get the capability to actually deliver a nuke across the Pacific to North America the result would be:one US city wiped out, and ...all of North Korea instantly vaporized by the 100 nukes we would instantly use on them in retaliation.
Why they would do that ( offer up their whole nation to be slaughtered just to wipe out one Hiroshima/Richmond Virginia sized American city) I do not know.
But if they did actually do that then the odds that you would be in that one city at that time are not great. In a nuclear exchange between the two countries- being an ordinary North Korean would mean certain death. Being an ordinary american would mean the odds of dying are about the same as dying in any two years in a road accident on America's highways.
So I wouldnt worry about it on a personal level. You are more likely to die in THE big Earthquake everyone has been expecting in San Francisco then to die from a North Korean nuke.
This is NOT like the depth of the old Cold War in which both the USSR and the USA were poised with enough hair trigger missles and bombers aimed at each other to obliterate the other several times over. Even if Kim gets a few nukes there is still a vast asymmetry between his country and ours.
If you want to know who really scares me, it's the Islamist extremists. Those people actually seek to create Armageddon. They don't mind if they go out with us. If they ever get large scale WMDs (weapons of mass destruction), it's over.
But K_Kelley, this fear of the end of the world or life as we know it is not new with your generation. Growing up in the 60s and 70s, I feared atomic holocausts but equally ecological catastrophe. Both are still with us, but what I ultimately figured out is that if I let fear prevent me from living a full life, and the fears never came true, I would have thrown away a lifetime on worrying.
