Can someone please stop me from drinking tonight? Ive been drunk these past 2 nights. I drink mainly because I get bored and lonely. Never went to AA meetings but should check them out. If I drink again tonight I will probably not get drunk because my tolerance is so high right now, Ill probably just feel sick.

Its going to be rainy all weekend here. What shall I do besides drink? All I ever do is go on the internet all day and night. Its getting old. Boring and lonely.

That doesn't sound like alcoholism.
At worst your drinking may be considered problematic.

Stop drinking.
Find an interest.
you're capable of more than you think.

I agree. But neither one us is qualified to determine whether Sarah is an alcoholic or not. I would strongly advise her to seek the services of a professional.

I am an addict in recovery since September 25, 2103.

The school of thought used to be that autism and addiction could not coexist. Now research has discovered that ASD can be 4x more likely to become addicted, with ASD and ADHD comorbidly having a 8x more likelyhood of addiction. Let's face it, the world coming at you all at once sucks. However, recovery is possible.

Only the person themselves can say if drinking is causing them problems. If you think it's a problem, it's a problem. The good thing that I have found is that at least I was more likely to stay home. Which meant no DUIs, no run-ins with the law, etc... In that respect we are typically ahead of the game. AA has several subsets of groups, many places have dually diagnosed 12 step groups. Those are especially helpful in addressing how alcoholics or addicts who have other diagnoses can still recover. It's a safe space. Check it out if you think it's something that might help.

Regardless of what you decide, it all boils down to not picking up that drink or drug. Do not lose hope, WE DO RECOVER!

I'm sending a prayer your way, right now.

Go to AA meetings, it'll give you something to do.

I've been in residential rehab, it helped work out why I drink if nothing else.

This. I'm surprised how many people think that any drunk or person who drinks a lot must be an alcoholic.

I know a lot of people who drink too much for various reasons and either stop or switch to occasional/moderate drinking without much effort.

Sarah, find something interesting to fill your time and you'll probably be fine :)

Probably because the OP was both asking for help and self-identifing as an alcoholic. In any case, that would be my advice as well.

Just because she said that she’s been drunk the past two nights doesn’t mean that she wasn’t drinking before that. This is a sensitive topic which shouldn’t be spoken of lightly.

It’s concerning that she’s worried about drinking away the weekend. That sounds like a dependency at the very least.

If you are struggling Sarah, consider talking to a professional about this. This is probably not something that many of us have knowledge or experience about, except for Persephone who’s offered some very sound advice.

Do you see a counselor? If so, what does he or she say?

I havent talked to anyone yet about this. The reason I think I have a problem is whenever I have money I drink. Sure its only 3 tall tins a night, but its enough to make me feel like crap the next day. I probably wont drink tonight. But probably will tomorrow night. Perhaps if Im still drinking by the time my psychologist appointment rolls around on july 2nd, ill bring it up with him.

How long have you been drinking like this?
Do you drink with others or alone?
How often do you think about drinking?
When you wake up in the morning is your first thought alcohol?

I know it's lonely. But the Internet is a great resource where you can gain lots of great knowledge (if you go to the right places).

As others stated, I would seek out the services of a professional.

It's true----a couple of drinks don't make you an alcoholic. But what would be troubling is if you drink alcohol when you get up in the morning; I've known people who, instead of having their morning coffee, have their morning swig of whiskey.

I think you'd be surprised if you actually knew how many members here have suffered from addictions or still suffer from addictions and keep it to themselves.

Also notice what I've actually quoted , I haven't disagreed with you before you climb up to your moral highground again.

I'm surprised you can see us all way up there.
