I'm currently in psych ward in hospital.

Do you think I should lie my way out of here?

I'm waiting for my section 2 to expire and then I'm going to do whatever I can to get out.

A week ago I was pretty ill, but the medication is working well for me now and as a result I feel ready to leave.

Its just that the doctors are fascists and overcareful. I think I should lie and pretend everything's ok.

I still hear voices that command me to do things and I still see the hallucinations and I haveto fight intrusive and distressing thoughts that are not my own every day. I also feel madly depressed and have mood swings.

Your opinions? Shall I lie?

no. lying is bad. also, i think they will know if you are lying and you could risk staying longer than you would have if you didn't lie.

No, you should not lie about anything. Use the time productively...and do things that you would not have time to do when you are on the outside. Read a good book, learn a skill like crocheting or some other craft project that interests you. Keep yourself
busy...and the time will go faster than you think.

Hope you will be feeling better soon!

I agree with others - do not lie, ever! This will make everything worse by confounding the problem. Zsazsa wrote her idea well: Can you try an interest to keep occupied? Even find a new interest! Sometimes making/creating, even reading, just feels very comforting and can hasten your recovery.

I cannot know, but your doctor being 'over-cautious' is trying to assess the problem, then solving it. The best way to help him/her is to be honest. They do want to help (really), even if they may seem instrusive.

I am so sorry you're not well.....recovery time can seem so long, whatever the condition/illness. But you will get better, and you are! At least you can post here whilst you're in the hospital. We'll do 'virtual visits,' ok? Right now I'm sending you a virtual bouquet of Alaskan wildflowers in your favorite colors.

Feel all better soon SteelMaiden.

no, don't lie.
It can't be nice hearing voices and feeling depressed. Give the doctors a chance to resolve these problems for you, please.

In the meantime try to chill out, relax and take some time out from the world.

Get better soon. Keep in touch.

I know that I can get repetitive with the way I tell stories, but I would really like to bring one up if that is alright with everyone.

Bela Bartok is one of the more important composers of classical music in the 20th century. He spent the last years of his life both physically and mentally ill and was hospitalized. It was during this time, though, that he composed the greatest of his pieces of music and music scholars laud this period of his composition as his most skilled.

No matter your condition, you can achieve greatness.

Don't lie - it will only compound the problems. A nice positive story, Vashna... being a composer myself, that's especially uplifting and inspiring in its own dark, beautiful way.

I definitely agree with those who are cautious about lying - being professionals I'm pretty sure they will see through it, and the reason they want to know is so they can help you better. If you do have concerns about the way they are going about things, it might be an idea to just talk about those concerns with someone who you feel comfortable with and who can help the situation. Just try and take the time to relax and concentrate on avoiding anything that will make you feel worse, and while you should trust the professionals, don't forget that if you are the patient, you can express concerns if you don't believe they are going about things as well as they could be. Hope things work out well for you, I can't imagine what it must be like.

I don't know what section 2 means and the reason why and the how you ended up in a pschychiatric ward. Also I don't know what treatment you get or what programm you are in. And this is probably none of my business too. So I find kind of hard to give some sort of advice here. I am not going to say don't lie but I am not going to say lie either. Just never ever lie to yourself.

I read in your text that you were pretty ill only just a week ago and if you are in hospital for just over a week I must say that is really not very long. I know that you feel a lot better because the medication is starting to work (this normally need a bit of time).
And if you are in the ward for only just a week the doctors are never going to believe your lies and they might get even more careful with you too.
You might think you have everything under control more or less and you think this is good enough, but this might be misleading. If you manage to get out while you are not really ready for it then the drop back might be so big that you can end up worse than you were this time. This is not something you want to risk I guess...
You say you feel madly depressed and have moodswings. These are serious indications you are not ready to leave yet.
I do completely understand why you want to get out of there and wanting to do anything to achieve it too. I know the feeling!

There is nothing wrong being critical towards doctors and your treatment. It is your body and your brain, so if you have any doubts, just ask the doctors questions and express your concern. And if you really don't get along with a certain doctor because he/she is an authoritarian arrogant bastard for instance, then ask for another doctor or a second opinion. Doctors are also just humans like you and me.

For me it helps to understand what is going on, to understand the process of an illness (mentally and physically) and a good doctor will explain what's going on and helps you to understand. If you don't understand the jargon, just say you don't understand what the doctor is saying and that he/she should explain things a bit better and more simple.
If you have any questions write them down before you see the doctor, so you won't forget to ask or get overruled.

You will get better and there is going to be the day when you are being discharched from hospital (by yourself or doctors) and this will be when you are really ready for it. In the mean time try to make the best of it and be patient. Easier said than done I know, but you can do it eh  .

I have been in a psychiatric ward years ago and it was just horrible. I had a very bad experience. Doctors/psychiatrists don't always know best, really. I didn't talk to the psychiatrist at all, but luckely I ended up with a psychologist/social worker and she helped me really good. She supported me even when I discharched myself from hospital against the advice of the doctors and psychiatrists. I had been in hospital for 6 months though before I was able to discharge myself.

You can keep us informed with updates, how things are going and how you feel (if you want to of course) and maybe we can give you some support. I hope it helps a bit what I wrote and I hope it makes some sense too.

Take advantage of a structured environment.

Life goes to hell as soon as you get out.

I wish I was back in the mental hospital. I didn't feel bad about eating then. A lot of the time I didn't care how long I was in there; I was just glad I didn't have to feel guilty about eating anyone else's food because it was the government's food, or whoever's. :)

Thank you for the advice everyone. I am out of hospital now and I didn't lie. I haven't lied to a single doctor since and I'm doing well.

Thank you for your help, seriously.

I am on the mend now.

Now that I am at home, I am not so depressed.

I'm glad to be back although my consultant thinks that my meds need increasing from 15mg to 20mg olanzapine. 20mg is the maximum dose. If that dose doesn't work, I'll shoot myself.
