It was actually a pretty nice studio in a decent area. Parquet floors, as I recall.

What are called "bachelor" apartments in Canada.

You, me and countless others have been saying this and similar over and over again for years now. I think it's time to lay it to rest. Just say something nice like I'm sorry you're having a rough time or whatever, like Bea strongly suggested, if we're going to say anything at all, and just leave it at that.

Problem with that is he will not stop these types of posts. That's very clear. And hes been at it for 11 years, so the mods are not stopping him either.

Ok so here is how I view the situation. AssP will never go to college. He will never work. He will die homeless, and that's coming pretty soon, either from his heart problems or COPD. Before that things will get worse from him as his body continues to fall apart from the effects of long term untreated diabetes (I see foot amputations and blindness in his future as well).

Nobody here can do anything about it either.

If there's one thing I don't want----is for somebody to die lonely.

I don't think ASS-P is going to die very soon. I think some of his health problems might get worse, though.

And he's probably not going to become a vegetarian any time soon; he's going to continue to eat Burger King or whatever. That's just the reality.

What I wish is for ASS-P to have a place to "hang out." Do his Charles Bukowski thing.

But without ASS-P getting angry and frustrated at us if we don't give the "proper" advice from his viewpoint.

He does pretty good when he posts on other subforums---like when he tells us what music he's listening to.

KK, you strike me as a very smart and level headed person. Do you doubt the truth of anything I have said in this thread?

I don't think he "panhandles," per se.

He doesn't go up in your face and beg, then physically threaten you if you don't give up the money--as in "aggressive begging."

I feel like he does sort of expect people to help more than they could help-----or more than they should be expected to help. If he feels like they are not "putting in the effort," so to speak, for him, he gets upset.

It would be nice if he can get his transcripts, and at least try to go to college. It might be a tall order---but, who knows?

He should work more towards getting himself a permanent apartment-type place---especially for one with chronic disorders. Then, once he establishes himself at such a residence, he can think about taking a few classes.

He is a long-time member of WrongPlanet. And it would be nice if we give him a place here---as long as he doesn't go overboard with the insults.

I became a nurse in NY back in 1986. When I went to California years later, I didn't have to take the nursing exam again to be re-licensed to work there. All I had to do was get my transcripts from NY to California.

The way that worked was I had to give the California nursing board the address of the college I went to and they sent for the transcripts. In other words, I never saw the transcripts. The transcripts are really a communique between institutions.

@ ASS-P, if an institution in Santa Cruz wants your transcripts, all you'd have to do is fill out a form with the past address. They'll obtain it themselves.

BTW, which school are you trying to get into?

The last college he was trying to get into, as far as I know, was City College of San Francisco.

The closest community college to Santa Cruz is Cabrillo College 10 miles away in Aptos. The Univ of California Santa Cruz is in SC proper, but it's a 4+ year institution with 10 residential colleges. The entering freshman class had an average high school GPA of 3.76, and the middle 50% range of SAT scores were 520-640 for critical reading, 550-670 for math, and 520-640 for writing, while the ACT Composite range was 23–29.[75]

If ASS-P's transcript grades can match those of the typical incoming freshmen, he has a shot at getting into one of the colleges.

This is why I think realistically he should be trying to get into a care facility, where his diet and meds are regulated. But I understand why he would resist doing so. And why he would want to fulfill a dream before he gets to whatever point where he can't. And of course I know based on what he says regarding his inability to do certain things and the shape he's in, college probably wouldn't work for him.

I don't know what Charles Bukowski thing means. I haven't read that person's bio, but I'm assuming his thing wasn't attending college as a freshman in his twilight years. A person can hang out at a university and even sit in on classes and lectures without being a student. Or at a coffee shop or a book store or a library or a senior center or a church etc.

That's why I think people should stop trying to give him advice or counsel him etc and just say something polite like "sorry to hear that". He's been given reams of advice, resources and counseling and all it does is upset him. So just put it to rest already. I understand the compulsion to get though to him, because I have it myself, but it's clearly obvious he can't be gotten though to, so now it's time for me and RU etc to give it a rest.

It sounds like basically same thing as signing a permission slip to have your medical records transferred to another doctor.

The only difference between ASS-P and Charles Bukowski----is that Charles Bukowski was a flaming alcoholic. I don't believe ASS-P is one.

Charles Bukowski was a poet and novelist who wrote about life in the seedy districts of the United States---especially in places like Los Angeles. He liked to hang out in bars, and to get drunk and stupid. He frequently got arrested for barfights and for doing other stupid stuff.

There was a movie done about him about 30 years ago, called "Barfly." It sold pretty well. There have been biographies of him as well. And, of course, his own published works.

Charles Bukowski is a legend in some circles.
