Hi Tim,
Sorry to hear about your meltdown. I had a meltdown recently myself. I was visiting a friend and just became to enraged that I ran out of her apartment and slammed the door on my way out because I was just a second away from throwing a coffee table across the room. I know how you feel about the romantic relationship thing; I have not dated anyone in two years. You have one thing going for you in the romantic department; you are a man and don't have such a sharp "biological clock" limitation as a woman does. I tried meeting people online but it was a disaster. I corresponded with a guy who lived across the country from me who was also an aspie. We corresponded via e-mail for over a month and then progressed to phone calls. I enjoyed talking to him on the phone and thought that I'd made a connection with him. At one point he stopped answering my e-mails and didn't return my phone calls either so I just had to let that go. It still hurt though.
For what it's worth, if I was 10 years younger and lived within a reasonable distance where you lived I would certainly be willing to meet you. But I am 37 and so even if I did live closer I don't think I would be a good candidate anyway since you have expressed a desire to have children. I guess I'm just trying to say that you don't have to be in quite as big of a rush since men's fertility lasts longer than women's. That's one thing to keep in mind.
Please don't give up. I am in a state of discouragement myself but there is still a glimmer of hope. Thanks for responding to my post "I don't know who I am anymore". Yesterday I found a nice spot in a park with trees and a bench with a swing and that was something I found to be very soothing; definitely it was a place where I felt comfortable. That sounds like a good idea to look for jobs where you can be outside. Although I reside in an urban area it is indeed soothing to be in natural surroundings. I wish I had better advice for you but I understand what you are going through. I wish I had known about AS when I was 28; I struggled through college not knowing. Please keep us posted on how things are going. I meant to say in terms of the long distance thing it may be that they simply don't have the means financially to go meet someone who does not even live in driving distance.

I'm old enough to remember having been told of a time when your religious denomination was the determining factor in whom you could marry. A methodist would only marry a methodist--maybe a baptist or a lutheran in the rare event that no suitable methodist was available--certainly not a Catholic or a Jew.
But, now you've got it down to whether she watches a specific cartoon or not.
I don't know, as long as she has a vagina and a pair of breasts, I should think that would be good enough for me. I suppose that even some redneck women can be fun--don't be too quick to judge. Just bring her dancing to a hoe down (yee ha!! !) or to watch some bull riding. But, even I would draw the line at nascar. And, who knows, maybe she would learn to appreciate public libraries.
South Park comes on pretty late at night, doesn't it? My son watches it. He stays up a lot later than I ever do. He always did. So, I really don't know much about the show. It's on the Cartoon Network, right? You must be a night-owl too, then. There must be some women who would be acceptable, but who don't watch South Park because of how late it is on. I just never saw enough of it to develop an interest, or to form an opinion, one way or the other.
I got a flu shot today, and my temporary crown broke this morning. I got a new one put in, and it fell out while I was eating cereal.

South Park comes on Comedy Central at 9:00pm (Central time), so it doesn't come on too terribly late. The reason South Park is such a big deal to me in looking for a mate is because I am looking for someone who is socially (but not necessarily politically) liberal, and because of the language and mature content on that show, I tend to see South Park as a "certificate of liberalism" for anyone who watches it.
Socially conservative people often compare South Park to porn.

Well, I don't watch the show, but neither do I equate South Park to porn. I just regard South Park as another cartoon.
Would you settle for a lass who likes to download and watch hard core porn? Well, it is easier to admit to watching South Park, I'm sure. Especially if it is a first date.
Maybe I'll have to watch this show some time, just to see what all the buzz is about.

No. Porn is an absolute turn-off for me.

Well, at least you would get your language and mature content.
You might be able to persuade someone who watches porn to watch South Park with you.
Don't reject someone immediately on the basis of not watching South Park. Perhaps she will learn to like it.

For me, if you said you were looking for someone liberal, I would take that to mean that you were looking for someone to go with you to the Democratic National Convention or some such thing. I tend to interpret "liberal" in a political sense.
For me to think that you were just looking for sex, you would pretty much just have to come out and say "I'm just looking for sex." Actually, even that might not work. For me you might have to say "I'm a horndog, just looking for sex."
By the way, you are looking for sex, aren't you? Not JUST someone to watch cartoons with?
Why can't you just be clear, and proclaim "I'm looking for someone to watch cartoons and to have sex with!! !"
One of my profound defects is not understanding why people can't be more clear about what they want.

I want an actual relationship with someone, not a one-night stand. By liberal, I have values and interests that conservative people find offensive. I live in and go to school in a town where if you're not Southern Baptist, you will not fit in. And I am leaning toward liberalism politically myself.
As for sex, I just don't want to be with someone who wants a 5-year-long courtship before getting married--like my last girlfriend was. You can't set an arbitrary time period for things like that.

i'm in the same position - i strongly believe in respecting individual choices, people have the right to make their sexcual choices (which also means they're responsible for them) without someone telling them it's not (their) god's will. But what i personally would have wanted for myself is a committed, faithful, long-term relationship eventually leading to marriage and kids, noyt one-night stands (you have a right to be promiscuous, and a right not to be - non-religious US college students take note).

That's me as well. I will not engage in any sexual activity outside of a committed relationship, but I don't feel that marriage should be a prerequisite to sex. But I would eventually marry someone, if she and I were a perfect fit.

Legitimate fear. "Liberal" and "open-minded" are both code words meaning sexually open, or kinky.
Why not preface the word with an adverb? For example, "politically liberal" or "socially liberal"? That would remove the ambiguity.
