Unplugging the maf triggers CEL and limp mode. Working? IDK...car doesn't stutter sputter or anything but I wouldn't rule it out, I also wouldn't pay $300 for a new one and $100 for refurbished still is too rich for my tastes when it doesn't seem to be that bad.

How does it run in closed loop? Even if the MAF was off, it should still run fine in closed loop. Does it smell rich at idle only? That would explain the good gas mileage. They always seem the most sensitive to change at idle speed due to the low air flow. I see no reason for the ECM to go into limp home unless there is a failure in the MAF circuit somewhere, or something unrelated. The worst I could see happening is throwing a O2 sensor over correction code, but you mentioned there isn't any codes coming up.

Yeah...O2 sensor is only a couple months old. Runs fine closed loop or open, I can't really tell when it switches. I usually don't stand behind my car when it's having the s**t revved out of it or while it's cruising doing 60 so idk about it smelling less but idle is a damn b***h. I mean I have the IACV adjustment screw all the way out, no power steering, no AC, no f*****g anything and it can still dip to 600.

Scan tool which wouldn't even do sh** since I can read trouble codes off the ECU using 2 leds built into it.
