Almost everyone gets denied until the actual court hearing. So, you only have a certain amount of time [possibly 60 days] in which to appeal. No matter how minor, you need some type of new info. [go to the e.r if you need to] You want to appeal rather than letting your appeal period lapse. If you let it lapse, you have to start all over again. You do not want to do that, because if you appeal, and eventually win, you will receive backpay from time of application. In other words, if you appeal in time, and eventually win your case 2 years later, you will receive about $16,000 in back pay. You might want to get an attorney specializing in social security. They only take money [25%, up to a maximum of $6,000] if you win. Most important, read and follow the appeal directions on your denial letter. If you have lost your letter, call to make an appointment with your local social security office. They can help you. This is a big deal. Do not procrastinate or give up. Over half of cases are decided favorably if you pursue to the hearing with the judge.
Now, do not neglect to provide documentation of other illnesses and disabilities. Often, there needs to be a combination of problems to get approved. If you are depressed, have PTSD, tourettes, heart failure, whatever, that needs to be included. Plus, you will need valid reasons why there is NO type of work you are capable of [ seriously, you have to prove why you are incapable of being a chick sexer, whether there are job openings or not.]
One cool thing. Sometimes a person is too disabled to work, but with special training or accomodations they might be able to eventually. That is the reason that "Ticket to Work." and the 'Pass plan" exist. They are good programs that could coneivably help you get to a place of greater financial self sufficiency. If you have questions about either of these programs I would be happy to explain them to you. BUT FIRST APPEAL THE DENIAL.
