He actually can't get SSI, because he only has a green card. This will effect his ability to be a citizen when he has an interview in a year and a half.
I'm actually the one planning on applying. If I'm going to college for the next several years, I have NOTHING to lose. I have other diagnoses and an extensive mental health history since age 11, along with 3 jobs that have never been long term due to my inability to keep them.
I just feel like crap, man. Everyone who is actually doing good in life is saying things like "it could be worse", but they don't have to live in poverty.
I'm also wondering if my husband is being discriminated against. He is autistic, we know this. He is not formally diagnosed. Yet, ALL of the people who work with him know he is "different". His bosses has talked to him like he is a child. Some of the ways they talk to him lead me to think they think he is mentally challenged. I really do think it's possible he is being discriminated against because of his disability, even though they don't know the technical term for what is wrong with him. Honestly, it's pretty obvious he is autistic to me, but he doesn't understand that.
If only he was diagnosed, I think I would actually bring up why he is being treated drastically different and have him mention if he is being discriminated against to his manager. Because I've been discriminated against based on race (I'm white, and I KNOW this is rare, but I was discriminated against based on my race where I was the only white person there).
Yes, I will wait until he has signed something. I'm still beyond pissed.
