It's also much better to drive with an automatic transmission than with a manual transmission. Many, many less steps one has to remember. I can't drive a manual transmission car.

The only problem is the expense when the transmission breaks down. It's much more expensive to buy a rebuilt automatic transmission.

I see. I guess I took what he said as probably true, at least for some people, because I've never driven.

The other problem is that automatics can't coast. In the hands of a really good driver, an automatic is half as efficient in equivalent cars. I can make automatics work, but the only reason my own car is still running is the safety precautions and durability of manuals.
