I have had problems before, and I have something that may help you. I know this forum does not have a block feature, but it is still possible to block the posts of any member who you feel is harassing you.

If you have firefox

http://www.greasespot.net/ download and install that plugin...

And then after restarting firefox

http://s93731204.onlinehome.us/firefox/ ... re.user.js download this.

The persons posts will even vanish from quotes, but you still have the option to open and read them by choice.

If you need any help using it, please PM me and I'd be happy to assist you with this. No one should ever be harassed on this or any forum, and it's easier to ignore people if you don't even need to see what they have to say. :)

aspies sometimes blurt out their own views without thinking of the consequences to other people's feelings. Patience is a great thing when it comes to us aspies.

Yeah, but there is a difference between stating your opinion, and being outright insulting and harassing someone. I have had both happen...the first is something I rather enjoy (Discussing things in a polite, though very open and honest manner with people).

I know very few people who would enjoy intentional insults and harassment. (Although some times it's kind of fun to go back and read it, because the people are so full of themselves they can serve as mild entertainment as a conversation among friends)

It's not just you, I've felt similarly (to a lesser extent) plenty. Haven't enough posts (nor have I begun any threads here), so I may attract less attention (which makes me feel less unsafe) than some other members. I'm not criticizing you, I'm saying it (misunderstandings in communication, regardless of who might be considered "at fault") is to be expected, alas.
It's really unpleasant when it happens, though. Couldn't guess whether it's more prevalent on sites for specific interest-groups (incl. for persons w/this dx), partly a consequence of internet (instead of IRL) conversations, or a side effect of the times we live in today...

Thanks to all of you who have been supportive. I will definitely take advantage of the block feature, Immortal.

I think it's pretty common on any site that is not technical in nature, and very strictly moderated. I've seen much much worse than anything that goes on here.

Immortal - I wish I could block some people out. Alas, they're just the ones that I have to keep an eye on. And no, no-one who attacks me - I rather like being insulted.

If you are posting about a controversial subject, at a time when
there are people who disagree with you, it's going to feel that way
at times.

-starnge enough that may be true, there are times that on the new and full moon more things happen and people don't know why.

Please don't be saracastic like that. This is a serious concern to her, and that's belittling the problem.

I don't really know Mitch but I would have read that as an attempt at humour and an apology in a way. Though maybe it would have had a smiley after it?

I find these little social things quite hard at times and therefore I must presume other Aspies do too.

It is disappointing if the intention was to bully or be sarcastic though especially when we are often alienated in the NT world.

I would go further and say that some have no comprehension of other's feelings.
I mean i have made statements before which are merely logical truisms which have ellicited personal attacks from other members.
I don't understand this at all.

Also, Smileys are strange things; i have noticed you can say rather sarcastic and often insulting things and 'get away with it' by putting a smiley after it. ( Not just here, but other forums).
I tend to avoid using them; i think they are for the MTV generation.
Although i have used them myself; they might as well be just a random symbol.

Also on some other forums there is an 'Ignore User' feature.
You can choose to block other members. You can see that they have made a post but the contents are not displayed.
Maybe you could suggest this feature to Administrators if it is a concern.

You're going to have to trust me that no malice or ill-intent was involved in that. It was really just mindless, though I offer no justifications. AS does cloud common sense sometimes in the social realm. I'm in no way a bully, and if I come across that way let me know so we can sort it out. And this goes for everyone, if you see someone say something inappropriate let them know - being Aspies we may do them inadvertendly and never know that we've offended anyone.

But in terms of this thread, I think it may be going overboard to block someone out completely. Talk to the person, deal with this issue - you may find a new friend, or at the very least realize that it was harmless. No need to go overboard and censor people. People are entitled to opinions, believe it or not - though I would advocate a little more intelligence by some before posting - you come off a little rough (myself included).

Nearly every week I see something on TV or hear something on the radio and think that people are too easily offended these days; too quick to go to litigation, just too quick to defend themselves as if the whole world was a really, really bad place.

What happens in the end is that the person who thinks they are being bullied ends up being the tormentor, but in a different way.

I think you are right Mitch in suggesting that people talk it over rather than alienate someone.

Always best to get to the facts first and then make a decision based on them rather than get carried away by emotions.

I really hope this is resolved quickly.

If you feel like a specific member is targeting you for bullying, you should PM one of the mods. Especially if it is happenning in the Haven, since there is a zero tolerance policy for that sort of thing in this particular forum.

I hope you don't think that I've ever tried to bully or insult you - I know that I'm opinionated and I have disagreed with some things that you have said in the past. But I don't disagree with these people in these forums for the sake of being disagreeable - usually I have an opinion and I try to express that rather than telling the person I disagree with to shut up - especially if they are also expressing a valid opinion. That was sort of rambling so I hope it made sense. But sometimes Aspies tend to have thin skin, so we can take it the wrong way when someone wants to offer a differing opinion without wanting to intentionally offend the other person.

We're certainly all different. I don't agree that talking to someone helps, especially if it's one of those days (like yesterday and the day before) where I felt like I got no positive responses to anything I posted, just negativity or people taking little things out of context and turning them into an argument - like the thread I started "Screw everything day" because I was so upset with the world, and several people got into an argument with me on that thread.

I have already downloaded Immortal's greasemonkey program that lets you completely block having to see posts from others, and I recommend that the instructions be made into a sticky and posted here in the haven.

I can't believe I posted this thread, here in the haven, and people are saying NOT to block people because censoring is bad, that I shouldn't be so sensitive, that the world needs fewer people suing others, that they like being insulted. So this thread about being bullied, posted in the haven, is quite an irony.

And I've had the same signature for weeks now, and nobody has commented on it. Hmm.

Oh yes, I hadn't seen that. I think that is where the smileys help a lot really. Pictures seem easier to understand, to me anyway
