I'm so sorry.I don't have a sibling,it's hard to imagine how bad it would feel to loose one.

Please accept my condolences, thoughts, and prayers on the loss of your brother.

..Seeing him would have required, of course first of all, ENOUGH MONEY ~ to get from the West Coast to NYC - and from there, LaGuardia (probably, imagining a plane journey), then make it from there/KK-land to Manhattan - as, from there the commuter train to Westchester goes.
Really, there was nowhere to stay with in W'ctr, with few motels in general, certainly cheap ones and our parents long gone...So, I could have tried to find somewhere in Manhattan - do-able, but complicated, and course expensive! I doubt there's left even the few " cheap/bum/SRO " places that still existed in New York County in 1996-97 when I was last there, certainly far less I'm certain.
Seeing him, then, would've involved taking the commuter train up to its last stop in W'ctr, then (since I don't have a car) somehow getting met by his people at the train station even when was less crippled than I am now ...

I was estranged, pretty much, from my sister, like you and your brother were----but, when she died not too long ago, I was just as hurt, as I would've been, probably, had we been close; so, I know how badly it can suck.

I was very happy for you, when I read, around his birthday, that you had been able to call him, for his birthday.

I'm sending-up a prayer, for you----here's to peace.....

...and seeing him a few hours, then going back (His place was I believe 100% not allowing outside visitors to stay.). If I did this, ohm, 4 times over a 2-week period...well, I'd have to live in general, too, and that would be expensive, in (even) some presumed flophouse Tom Waits/Woody Guthrie theme park in Mad-Hattan - Then, if I had gone back West after that, even mucho more expensive!
For one point, I often wondered if there was some direct subway, even bus from LaGuardia to Manhattan - I didn't want to take an expenisve (And might cheat me??? ) taxi - this was before Uber and Lyft sprang up, which I've never taken but which people are friggin' OBSESSED with in SF, press-wise, whether they're fir or again 'em...Anyway, that digression aside, I could never quite find out if there was a direct sub. or bus from LaG.
Anyway, even more recently, I was thinking just recently how I could do that, even in my present stateof health .
And now he;s gone and it will never happen! Maybe I was trying to come up with something to make me cry, to make me sound nicer.
Well, I did cry ..
Campin' Cat - Are you, perhaps, interpreting " estranged " differently? If distance can estrange one...We felt for each other, I believe he felt for me.

...I want to get his pictures and other paper memoribilia, and there' s the question of his other material items too...I had, as next of kin, to sign a faxed statement and fax it back to have the county's office release his body to the funeral home...And it is, maybe, seeming to be a possibility that I could inherit some funds, but I don"t know that for sure.

...Okay, first, getting this out of the way...There is apparently no money for me ni y brother's account, no cash. What little money he had in his bank account was returned to the Social Security Administration after he died so that's ruled out, and I won't, unless some new development in this sticks a head up, mention that further, now anyway. I will (since I leave names out here) refer to my late brother as " Bruh ", BTW . (" Bro " is for other people who are HL or in/were jailed.)
Now, there's the question of the memorabilia, and the other stuff ~ Basically??, the DVDs, etc. I gave him.
For the second thing, the lady I spoke to pointed out that shipping that would proably be very expensive.
However, I don't have a car, let alone the money to go to NY.
What can I do? On a certain level, the stuff might even be, even if I couldn't use it, sell-able at a 2nd-hand shop, the discs and DVDs anyway (Although, is there much market for 2nd hand DVD and CD shops anymore? Maybe that's one of those things that have collapsed in this century. Hey, you hip young people here ~ tell me? ).
However, such stores don't offer much cash, they're oriented towards offering you stuff for trade - But, bluntly, I am poor enough that even that amount of one-shot do$h could be nice, even ...........although (sigh) listening to the discs, rtc., which were pretty much stuff I'd like would probably be more enjoyable.
However I AM poor enough that I have no CD or DVD-playing mechanism of ANY STRIPE! But how much money would it cost to get the stuff out here?
BTW, I ain't a-kiddin' about how much I bought Bruh as Christmas/his birthday presents over the years - Much of them were from Amazon.com. Which keeps your purchases on file.
Rough-counting the original prices of just the Amazon-acquired stuff, and intentionally slightly undercounting the amount when I checked my records there, over a 15-year-period, Bruh received:
over $1700.00 in CDs, etc. from me from Bezos's brainchild.
I would not be talking about this had he not died, naturally (receiving them myself).
