I'm really sorry to hear it's gotten this bad. As a last ditch effort, I found this - could it help at all?

Alpha Chi Sigma (Chemistry Honor Society) offers free tutoring for general chemistry. E-mail daird@cisunix.unh.edu for information on special exam review sessions.

Hello Tim,

I'm sorry to hear you feel this way.

I'm NT and I found university (as we Aussies say) difficult to adjust to.

I lived on campus my first year and HATED it because I didn't fit in because I don't drink. Also, even though I'm an open person, I greatly value my privacy and hated living with so many people around me.

Things got better when I moved out of a residential college and found an apartment to share. I found flatting with males easier than females because I'm a bit of a slob.

I made a couple of friends at uni - I didn't hang out with a big crowd.

Your best chance of making friends is finding other mature aged students. Mature students are usually there because they want to learn. A lot of younger students straight out of school are there to study.

Have you tried joining any clubs related to your interests?

There will be other people like you - it may take time to find a friend - but it will happen.

I'm thinking of you.

Helen

I felt like killing myself the first few weeks of college. It was too radically different than the life I lived before. But frankly now in retrospect my 3 years of college was perhaps the happiest time in my life.

You pay for college on a semester basis. So finish up this semester and make your next plan during Christmas break.

I am also trying to finish in a certain time period. I thought at this point in my life, I would be happily married, with at least 2 kids. In fact, I thought I was going to get married at 18, but that didn't happen (I'm 27, will be 28 in December).

Tim

Hi Tim, don't give up. So you don't fit in but your education is more important than a group of friends. Just hang in there.

Tim, I always notice your optimism, so I'm really sorry to hear this. I won't offer the pat "ride it out" or "hang in there" line, because I know that's what you don't need at the moment. (If you're like you, and try to make the best of things already, I know that when it gets to this point, it's a high threshold already and you have been "hanging in there.") But I hope you get some good counseling and make it through, good luck.

Tim, I am so sorry. But, like the others have said, your situation can and will get better! Ironically, I had a meltdown this afternoon.....I cried in my car in the parking lot, started whimpering like an animal, and then screamed until my throat was raw. This wasn't directly related to school (something else kind of mundane, actually), but, for me, I have a 'saturation point' of stress. I can take a certain level, coupled with overwhelming external stimuli, and then I shatter like glass. And, I want you to know: I have always appreciated that you greet everyone who enters WrongPlanet with unconditional acceptance. This means a lot! I am certain there are many confused/lost Aspies who are reassured by your cheerful hospitality. I only wish NTs could have this sort of consistent courtesy (believe me, they don't)!

You'll do fine at school and do not give up! I know everyone has 'rough patches' but no one can know how hard it is for an Aspie. As you probably already know, I am beyond Aspergers (a HFA), but I can envision what you're saying. Since you are resilient, I'll bet if you find a proficient counselor (at your university), you'll recover from the transitional difficulties. I have a really hard time acclimating to new settings, personally. I know you just moved too. I have every confidence in your abilities though......concentrate on your studies and this does help divert your pain/confusion/disorientation (whatever the right word is).

But - give us an update - ok? Concentrate on your goal - your education, which you've earned, and your future. Everyone here likes you. Right now, I'm having a rough time too.......it's as if I can't even begin to have a fair chance from the start since my mindblindness is readily apparent and others just sense my vulnerability. Sigh.......

One of my brothers wanted to marry at age 22, and the other wanted to be a bachelor forever. Each of them married at age 33. They have beautiful families.

As many of you know, I am usually one of the most cheerful, most optimistic people on here. When most of you joined, you were greeted by my world-famous "Welcome to WP!", and many of you complimented my funny, witty, insightful posts, and sound, intelligent advice.

But right now, I am a very troubled soul. Last night, after another fiasco in my chemistry class, in which I am having a lot of trouble, I came back to my dorm room and came very close to having a meltdown. I am borderline AS/NT, but I am worried I might be regressing toward pure AS. In addition to my chemistry class problems, I am very lonely. I have made virtually no friends, and as far as dating, I don't stand a chance. Poiltically, I am Libertarian, and socially, I am liberal. And I want to date like-minded people, but nobody in the Wichita Falls-Lawton area--Aspie or NT--fits that description. Nearly everybody here is very socially and politically conservative. The financial burdens of being a full-time college student, and an explosive sex drive don't help matters any.

Hello Tim man, I only read the first few posts only cause I had something to say and did not want it to slip my mind while i finished reading thr thread.

I think you gotta know why exactly you moved to where you are. Are you their to learn and get a degree, or are you their to date and make friends.

I went to collage too, and I was their for achidamia. See how well it worked, not only do i suck at spelling and grammer, but I never finished (dispite deans list GPA). ANyways, I did some socializing, and all it got me was alot of trouble (parties where everyone was drunk, fights, stress and finally being thrown outa school)

My advice to you is to decide what you want to do at school. For us anyways... I think its best we focus more on achidemics rather then socializing, I screwed myseelf outa a 4 year degree cause I tryied to socalize, and I wish i woulda just continued to focus on school work.

Besides, many of the collage kids I met sucked ass anyways, look towards your future rather then your present and do things now to benifit you later, sociualizing with these ppl wont help you later.
I have tried to keep my feelings bottled up, and I can't do that any more. In the title of this thread, my "snapping" refers to the fact that I vented at full-force. Tomorrow, after my economics class, I'm going to the Counseling Center and talk to someone. I hope people there can help me. If they can't, I am going to call my parents and ask them to pick me up and take me back to Houston.

Tim

hmmm... this screwed up, I wrote most of the above, at least the second half... all well...

I had to drop my chemistry class today, and I am changing my major. Also, I didn't get the job that I had an interview for last week.

I feel like taking my own life right now.

Everyone has seen me as "Tim, the future geologist". Now, I am worried that people will think differently of me.

Hey Tim, I also dreamed of becoming a nurse. The chemistry baffled me beyond belief and I also changed majors. The feeling of not having any plan or path was completely terrifying at the time. However, have faith that maybe some other [read: better] plan is in store for you. What other areas do you excell in? What activities or topics pique your interest?

There are so many things I am good at, but I want a field of work that is in high demand, doesn't require chemistry, and that pays enough to where I can live comfortably in Seattle.
