Not at all, history is full of people who caused much damage to others, spent most of their life in jails, and all of their crimes netted them $216.43.
That crime does not pay is true, a bank robber, the high income end of common crime, usually gets less than $2000, and twenty years, the night watchman gets $2000 a month, with health care and retirement.
Your lawn mower gets stolen out of your garage, and the tough neigbor has some buddies over, then comes and tells you you can't do anything about it, because he has friends, got with the beer, got with the sale of your lawn mower. The beer runs out, they leave, and for the next twenty years, he avoids running into you at the post office, grocery, and would never dare go fishing, hunting, anywhere he would be alone.
Seeing he was unemployed you were going to offer him the job of painting your house.
Evil creates it's own hell.
It is no longer popular, but in the good old days, it was explained by demonic possesion. Human greed was known, crimes done for money understood, even crimes of passion. Everyone understood how that could happen.
Then there were crimes beyond understanding, where no one could see what was gotten out of their actions. You can tell if you were burgled by white trash, the garbage is missing and the dog is pregnant.
It gets worse, a respected Doctor in the mid-west, it seems he had been going out several times a year and killing young women. DNA closed the case, and explained bodies found in several states over twenty years, maybe fifty.
A recent case here in New Orleans, a young man went to the home of his best friend, killed him and his family, for no reason, then stayed in the house for ten days, having sex with the bodies. He was very glad when the police came, the neighbors reported the smell, he could not stop or leave.
My favorite was in Ponchatoula, LA. Five adults confessed to having sex with very young children, and dogs, on the alter of their church. One was the Minister, one a Sheriffs deputy, it is a death penalty offense, but they confessed just to clear the matter up, there had been talk, so they explained it, it had happened, but it was religious, and they were clearing the matter up because they were starting a new church.
They were shocked when arrested, more shocked when not released, they were important people in the communtity! Slowly it came out that it had once been a church of five hundred, but most left, and most of the last hundred adults were involved. The first five told all, and by law about a hundred people should be killed. It is being covered up, for a lot more people were involved.
The face of evil is dumb.
I do not see the motive, if motive means getting something.
They disrupt, destroy, but do not gain. They also get caught, because they go tell the person they stole from that they cannot do anything about it, which gets reported to the police. When questioned, they drive by your house and shoot the electric meter, but the phone still works, and the police pick them up in five minutes, with the gun.
Many have left their wallet behind, then come knocking on the door asking if you have seen it.
Several women have had a rapist come in through a window, masked, armed, creating the worst fear and horror, the most personal insult, and before they leave, the woman asks, where can I get in touch with you? And the rapist gives them their phone number.
I would not think it good sex, there are service girls that do better for $50, maybe the knife and mask would cost an extra $10, maybe not. $60 or 60 years, take your pick.
Other girls have a whole box of toys under the bed, and play for free. Spend $60 taking her out and you will have to hide for rest.
It was perhaps overused, but most cultures had burning at the stake, feeding to lions, some useful role for the evil without merit. Some start small and progress, and after twenty times, a pattern shows, which can be stopped. We are humain, so there are people with a police record that looks like a phone book.
They burgle, and every time they get out of jail there is another string of burgleries till they are put back in jail. Ten years in jail, one at a time, ten years of robbing peoples houses. States have enacted Three Strikes laws just for these folks.
I still see it a a personal flaw. The flaw opens them to the concept of evil, their attempts show them to be dumb, but they do not stop. They get shut out, arrrested, sent to jail, and come out to continue. Evil is equal oppertunity, some people from very bad backgrounds, are the best people you will ever meet, and some from very good backgrounds are the last people you will ever meet.
Humans open to evil are open to something else. I do believe in evil spirits seeking a host. Dr. Jeckel and Mr. Hyde was taken from life. There are many reports of ordinary people, who sometimes do horrible things, then turn back to ordinary people. Werewolves exist, the Doctor, most serial killers, fit the, occationally goes out and kills, but is the greatest person the rest of the time, profile.
Some confound me, forget his name, Lee somebody, in Texas, he was ugly, dumb, poor, drove a junker, in his fifties, and got more than thirty five nice looking young 20 something women to get in his car, ride out to way far back roads with him, where they got out of the car so he could rape and murder them. There was no blood in the car, the door worked, the bodies showed no signs of being tied, taped, they just went for the ride.
They were not sex workers, held jobs, and why they would even speak with him is beyond me.
Evil is, and those who become tools of evil are also victims, put in a cell they become the nothing they always were, the power is gone, found a new host, and is is ruining another one. They laugh, for though DNA has linked them to 37 murders, there are still six more that the police do not know about, that they got away with. They are fully sane, boring, and dumb.
I do not see that Psychology explains it.
The Dr. Jeckel/Mr. Hyde, and the Werewolf, are both connected to the moon. Once a moon they change for a few hours. With a plain killer, it would be oppertunity, a spree killer, but they pass on many, and strike on time. Most do have a type of prey, favored game, a sex and age, they do not spot and stalk, but will settle for what is around when it is time.
Hence I see evil as something outside of the person. The Doctor caused laughs when arrested, the police have gone nuts, everybody knew him, it could not be, but DNA closed the case.
Many have said, I was there, the only person, but I did not do it. Multi-personality does not fit, they are always there. Something overpowering, to both killer and victim, comes, leads the killer to the victim, who seems to just get in the car, offers no resistance, and rides to their end.
I write about humans, so the path of evil, from first step to last, is of interest. I am just as watchful of the small time evils, such as are reported here, as the extreem cases. My main goal is learning to spot and avoid them. Evil hides in shadows, places unspoken, and the light of day destroys it.
Things that once had a porpose now continue by tradition. Churchs speak of the glories of heaven, and lately the pits of hell have not been mentioned, or the fact that we stand between them, and can go either way. Give 10% of the take to the church, and they will not ask where it came from. Dismas accended with Jesus, Dismas was a thief, but he accepted Jesus at the last, and did not have to pay. Churches find that without covering for sinners, they would have a few Saintly followers.
They do not dare preach against evil, it would not be popular. They cover for now, and claim the hearafter.
I see evil walking the Earth, not in the hell of an afterlife, so I also see good walking the Earth, not later in heaven. We are in the middle every day. Our actions afffect the Universe, change the future, and every thought and act has power. It is not where you are going, but where you are.
My life has been mostly rote and ignorance. It is how we were raised. A few times I did a small amount of intentional good, it seemed like the right thing to do at the time. Some was one event, some spread over years. Looking back, those are what I remember and value. Now I do good when I can, for to not act is opening the way for evil. I have seen the results of not acting, and feel them.
I am old, not rich, an aspie isolationist, I shave once a week, most of the time, and am not what would be called a power player. Hermit comes close. Yet I have a magic power to change the world. It is done with very small things, a few kind words, a little of my labor, and lives change, gain energy, which gathers more to it. My thoughts and deeds are like water to a plant. It will flower and fruit, I just brought water.
These last few days my thoughts have run deep, we sorrow together. Some questions I cannot answer, others I know, water the plants.
You can tell evil from good, do good.
