When I came home cut and bruised from school from being beaten by the class, and finally got her to come in to talk to the teacher, they both came to the conclusion it was my own fault, simply for not understanding others. It took me months to change school, eventually based on my only friend leaving himself.
I built my own self esteem, and it isn't based on other people's expectations, and for that I think I'm a stronger person.
Your mother is a weak person and a coward who didn't protect her child when you needed support the most.
You're doing the right thing and yes, you are stronger now. And you will continue to grow.
Been there doing that...

Hi Ana54. Well my dad certainly destroyed my self esteem. I'm not gonna go into details, but I am currently under going therapy regarding my past with him and how it has shaped my present. Maybe therapy will help. One thing I can say, is that you must not allow what anyone did to control how you feel about yourself. Gaining an understanding of why such words were said and how one should deal with it will definately help. I hope things go well... ![]()

Hence I live away from my family. Cheers.
i worry about giving my son a low self esteem. i am a mother of a 5 year old boy with asd. i talk about him to his ot, st, and neurologist. i dont mean to but i cant tell him to go outside the room while we catch up on how he is doing when we go to his appointments. when he was 4 he actually told me he was "different." i think he heard me saying that to the neurologist. after that i became very aware of the things i say to them but i still have to talk to them about him so they can help us work on his problems and give me advice about him. i am also a controlling person and pretty impatient. i don't mean to be. i actually believe God gave me my son to make me become a better person. to be more understanding and patient. i still am struggling everyday and have my own issues that i am trying to work through but i dont want it to effect my son. i love him to death. im sure all of your parents love you people too. we are not perfect parents and no one gave us a manual when we had our kids. we just took what we learned from our own parents and try to love our kids the best way we can. my sister is also annoying. she tells her son that we need to talk to my son a couple of times before he can understand us. that is not true, he can understand and hear you, he just ignores you. he has selective hearing lol. my son may think that i am controlling or mean to him sometimes but im just trying to help him become independent. i never verbally abuse him. but i yell at him to get upstairs and wash his face and go to school or use the bathroom. he takes 2 hours to do everything! i would love some advice from young people on how to raise a healthy happy child with asd.

Not to be mean but only you can base your self worth so in the end don't let your mother affect you. My mother is sick and dieing and she hasn't been near as cruel as yours was but furthermore she has done things that caused issues what she feels about me whether or not I love her is her opinion. I know I'm awesome and that is the only person who needs to have a positive opinion of me is myself.

very true, but I do not have any ill intent or bad feeling towards my mom/dad. Sure they were misunderstanding, pushy and condescending but as a little kid I never absorbed their comments nor others since I quickly realized that they themselves were very unsure of things and what they said to me was just one persons opinion. A little child sees his/her parents as "almighty" beings, while growing up I saw mine as equals. Nobody could tell me s**t, but fact still remains, my mother gave me life fed me and took care of me even if she did this in a very messy and confusing way I would never have it any other way since that is what shapes me to become who I am and who I will become. I do not reject my parents but i know I am doing more than fine on my own but they are forever welcome into my life, I have come to terms, forgiven and forgotten all bad history, I'm moving forward.
I do not ponder over my past and think what if... nor blame anyone.
It isn't easy finding inner peace with a childhood that was shook so hard, but when you do find it and let go you will become an unstoppable force.
Forgive and forget is one of the strongest things you can do. Let go of the grudge.
