Dear WORLD,

Please stop attacking me for:
-Having AS. When I say this is why I do something, try to get it through your head that I actually DO perceive it differently. Just because you don't hear the noise doesn't mean I don't.
-Being a lesbian. I'm not hurting anyone, and I'm not even "sinning", for one because I'm not even in a relationship or sexually active at this point, and for another because there is nothing in MY religion that says I am wrong. You are free to disapprove of my "lifestyle", but I'd like to at least get through my life without fear of constant persecution.
-Having unconventional religious beliefs. I have as much right to my beliefs as you do yours.
-Having grown up in a welfare family. Children hardly have great control over their economic situations, particularly when their mothers must be heavily dosed with Haldol to keep from hearing voices.
-Not having a job while going to school full time. Some people can't do both at once, and if I were some rich kid living in a dorm no one would give it a second thought, though I'd be doing the same amount of work.

Dear LIFELONG FRIEND OF MINE,

Please stop harassing me about:
-Not caring about your stupid TV shows and movies that I find boring. When I say I still haven't seen Shrek 2, please stop looking at me as though I've just said I like to drown puppies. I don't CARE about most movies, and of course you'd never take the time to see the ones that are important to me, so why should I see the ones you like just because you like them? The same goes for American Idol and whatever TV dramas happen to be trendy right now.
-On a related note, your music. Yes I've heard it, it's all over the radio, because you don't bother exploring anything that isn't trendy at the moment, unless it was trendy at some vague point in your childhood. I listen to you ramble on about liking Hanson and I'm one of the few people who never makes fun of you for it, yet if I mention any of the bands I like you go glassy-eyed and act as if I just said something in Hindi. Also please stop getting mad at me for not liking that one Beyonce song. Pointing to the left is not that exciting.
-Also I don't care to hear about your sex life or how many drugs you take. It only makes you sound stupid and reckless, not cool.

Dear TEACHERS AT MY SCHOOL,
While I realize that college is an adult setting and that mature topics must be dealt with, I should not be made to feel unwelcome in a class because everyone gangs up on me in discussions. Stop allowing other students to make us sit through slide after slide of chopped up fetuses to give us an anti-abortion message in a humanities class of all things, without even giving us a warning that we might find the content disturbing. Stop encouraging debate over gay marriage as a matter of opinion when you know full well the "opinions" will have nothing to do with the legal issue of marriage and everything to do with unregulated belittlement of gays and lesbians. If you must encourage such debate, at least try to keep it on topic or use Socratic questioning or SOMETHING to give it academic value and keep it from becoming a hate-fest. This also goes for allowing religious discussions to come up in class. I am not the same religion as most of my classmates, and I should not have to sit through a theological discussion unless I am taking a class on religion, which I am not foolish enough to do.

I do not understand you at all. You seem such a sensitive person in ways, yet so... cold in others, as if you cannot bear to touch anyone else with warmth or be touched by anyone with warmth. I want to tell you everything that's wrong with me, I trust you and I love you (YES, that's right, YOU!), but I'm scared to tell you that I'm scared. I don't want you to change the way that you look at me. When you look at me, and when I look in your eyes (cos I CAN look in your eyes! It doesn't scare me to look in your eyes), I can see the most beautiful blue eyes. I know that you don't judge me like everyone else, and I know that you want to help me, protect me. But part of me won't let go of the lies everyone else told me. I know you won't let me go, I know you won't let anything happen to me, but what if-no, not gonna finish that sentence. Because it's not gonna happen. No no no.

When I'm with you I feel safe. I know I'm not alone anymore, maybe I'm scared of that too. I wish I wasn't so scared to tell you. Because even though I'm scared you'll look at me different, I know you won't...but it doesn't stop me from being scared.
