Well Mod, I'm glad to see you.

My hope is that you'll better define The Haven.
I thought it's a place where members are accepted in spite of their own perceived reality.

This is the place to go where you are a mismatch for the rest of humanity. It is accepted and respected that you are not "normal." The OP doesn't have to attain to societal standards.

My cousin was schizophrenic and hidden by her parents out of fear of social services. When they passed, my Mom took over. She picked her moment and, in gentle and sorrowful tones, said to J, "Do you know that I don't see that man?" J knew. That being accepted, our family accepted different realities for different people, while remaining in our own identities.

It is the judgement in the last few posts that upsets me a lot.

You would need to be involved in the last few 30+ page locked threads to get a proper understanding of what all is going on here. To understand ASS-P's relationship is to WP members and vice versa. The Haven isn't there to give someone carte blanche to cuss people out and call them stupid and liars etc when they are trying to help. You're right that people who are annoyed by this should just avoid ASS-P's threads. But that's the last thing he wants.

Perhaps if you just posted concise messages without all the little faces etc. I type on my crappy phone with the cracked screen using just one finger, so I keep it simple as possible.

Sometimes I post just a little bit to lock it in and then hit the edit button to add more like I am doing now.

I wonder why I don't have those problems despite being on an old cheapo generic phone with a cracked up screen and severe dexterity issues.

Part of the reason could be that he's an older person who might not be hip to technology.

Another could be his frustration, which leads to more frustration.

There's no tech hipness involved with this. I'm so unhip tech-wise on another forum I was called a luddite.

You know what I mean, though.

You might be "unhip" for an almost 18-year-old, but you might be on the "cutting edge" for somebody nearing 60.

I'm somewhere in the middle, leaning towards the "unhip," even for a 57 year old.

You certainly gave a good explanation for all the 502 crap.

I hold the phone and slowly tap the keys with one thumb. There's nothing else involved.

That's more me parroting stuff I've heard on forums over the last 5 years, than really knowing anything.

Going along with whatever is planned. Still gotta couple of months to go. It's dragging on forever.

And not meaning to be an a-hole but bill gates and steve jobs were born 62 years ago.Personal home computer tech has been around since you guys were in high school. The internet has been around since you were 29 or 30.

I started "Internetting" in 1996, at age 35.

My "incompetence" in technology is caused by me not trying hard enough. I joke about age----but I agree that age is not much of an excuse.

My mother is almost 84---and she's pretty good with technology.

We're at a time in history now where the guys who started producing home computers and software are practically senior citizens.

Using a computer or phone is like driving a car in that you can use one while knowing absolutely nothing about how they work. A lot of tech geeks use that analogy regarding un-tech savvy users. "You don't care how it works, just as long as it works".

I know how to start computers and phones up and know what to click to do this kind of stuff, but that's about it. The friend I game with uses a few very basic tech terms sometimes when talking about whatever and it just sounds like gobbledygook to me. He'll testify to how clueless I am, how slowly I learn things and how trying to teach me stuff is "like talking to a wall".
