I hope some people can recover but if me and OP are 2 of them, just be a friend.

I suppose Claradoon it’s the only way we know how - suggestions based on our own experience. We can try to imagine what it must be like to be homeless. Im certain I would not have lasted very long at all. It’s so hard to judge what “homes” might be like. My great-aunt was in one decades ago. I think it was an old converted hospital. She had nothing to do but sit on a chair in her room. It terrified my mother. When she could no longer live on her own we tried to convince her that it was time to move into a home. She wouldn’t believe us that things had changed from what my great-aunt had been in. She died before she moved and I think she chose to.

We (or at least I) have a hard time knowing what the OP wants. Does he want advice? What does he want advice about? If he’s just venting or journaling does he even want comments?

To paraphrase Carl Jung -
Most people come to the end of their lives thinking 'Nobody saw me; nobody heard me.'
I think he's right and it's universal.

Advice is good but there's more to a human being than Maslov's priorities, necessary though they are.

I hear you. I see you. I respect you.

How do we express that? Maybe by mirroring.

Can you walk a mile in somebody's shoes? Just that. Food, clothing, and shelter are more or less achieved but all is wrong. Can you walk in those shoes? Do you get what he said? I think that's what we should do, in addition to giving good, solid advice.

Ezra has covered the rest so I will reply to these statements

ASS-P wrote:

No one is "obsessed" with that notion, in fact no one has mentioned it in two pages or more. No one was pushing it, either, we believe you that you take your pills. This feels like you are creating a straw-man argument just so you can tear it apart.

ASS-P wrote:
And as it happens, there was no taxi service in Patterson. And I think i was never in the downtown of Patterson...just the outskirts big-box/ chain store area. And I think I never was in nearby, bigger... Modesto?

Uber and Lyft exist.

Who the hell is pushing for that? Another straw-man argument. We want you to find a better situation than the one you are in and unhappy with.

I personally don't care what you chose to do. It's your life. I am just commenting on the situations being presented.

I can see that you feel bad tonight and I truly do feel for you, no one deserves to feel like you do currently.

$25 isn't what the uber/taxi service for Patterson charges. It is however what a professional caregiver is likely to charge.

Seems to me being homeless is more hazardous to health than nut trees. When it comes to my own respiratory problems, the concern was leaving the dry air of Nevada for the moist/damp air of west coast Wahington.

Usually when one reaches a certain age late in life, and they have numerous health problems, they have to resign to living in a nursing home. As for me I have to resgin myself to a lifetime of living in a nursing home while still a teenager. To me pleasures mean things like being warm and dry and having a bed to sleep in, regular meals served to me and someone to see to my needs.

Again just commenting on situations being presented. What someone does with themselves is their business and of no personal concern to me.

...At least the beginning of some answers to the last few pages ~ No, I was not forbidden from walking in the neighborhood ~ I guess. But it seemed that it was discouraged, maybe you had to ask to have it unlocked and go out even before 5:30. Also, just walking around a nice-looking but rather samey subyrban neighborhood of close private houses - which, obviously, you couldn't go into - just walking on a sidewalk, maybe with not much to lean against - My CHF has led me to, when walking, often have stop and catch my breath :( . Also, the lady who kept the house may've had some local pressure, she said something once about " the police don't want (us) hanging around in the front yard " or similar.
I mistype some things ~ AND, late at night, now typing in the dark in the shelter, my eyes get blurry/weaker ~ AND, it seems that some letters may get misspelled my the machine after I have first put them up on the pre-posting screen correctly spelled. I guess the intended meaning got across. I have only a debit card, not a credit card, and do Lyft and Uber want only a credit card? Plus, I'm even having trouble with the debit card, as well. (Wouldn't there likely be someone who would say " I resent you having a debit card. An HL person shouldn't have one. You're stealing from me. " :( ? Even in Who/Spock  's abscence?) And I acknowledge that the taxi use in SC this summer was extreme - but there was sort of at least avalid reason for it.
Perhaps one not-very-Aspie trait about me is that I use hyperbole and metaphors more - however, I do think some folks were rather commanding me to return to Patterson, metaphorically anyway - and, I don't really think bachs take unsolicited calls from would-be residents, I REALLY don't think I could get to one and back in the course of a single day, with my pain  and slowness - and the shelter is a " pop-up " generally taking over a VFW hall but we are all gone by, pre-7:00 AM at the very latest :| . I can't really " call " like that.
I am very sleep-deprived now too :( .

The idea of going for walks was supposed to be "use it or lose it'. There are also city/county/state run shuttle services that pick up people at care facilities to take them places. I don't know that anyone is saying anything about returning to Patterson, it seems to me that ship has sailed already. But of course everyone thinks an older person who has number of serious illnesses should be in a nursing home, rather than being homeless. Calling lyft and uber to see if they take debit cards, is the way to find out if they do or not. There is no reason why a care home would have a problem with calls from would-be residents. But of course one can put up all kinds of imaginary road blocks to keep from even getting started on things. If I were living in Santa Cruz, I would be contacting Santa Cruz city and county social services for help. I would try getting a city/county/state social worker assigned to me to find me a place to live etc. Despite the fact that I am slow and crippled, have moderate/sever autism, learning disabilities, unable to socialize and am basically nonverbal. A person can either get plugged in and take advantage of social services or they can decide they can't or won't and come up with all kinds of imaginary road blocks to keep from even trying. Robin especially has posted a slew of resources available in Santa Cruz, apparently none of which have been utilized.

Tell Patterson to stick it, but don't assume all places are just the same.

Uber accepts debit as long as it is a debit card that has the Visa, MasterCard, etc. logo, too. Almost all debit cards can be run through as a credit these days. No one here resents you having a debit card either, if anyone is disabled enough to deserve state funds, it is you.

No worries about the mistyping, it happens to the best of us at times. As Ezra said, I don't think you should have any trouble with calling care home prospects, the people already there had to have contacted them is some way themselves.

So it sounds like you lay in bed 20 out of 24 hours a day in Patterson because you were too shy to ask if you could go out for a walk.

That's ok but don't make it sound like you were locked up in a jail cell. Other issues with Patterson have been addressed by others, notably Ezra.

You have a choice: be homeless and die sooner than necessary, or accept residential care and live healthier and longer. It's your call.

Care homes are restrictive. They want to keep track of their residents/patients. You do have to go though a check out procedure. When my aunt is picked up from her nursing home a procedure has to be followed. Liability is a big deal to those places. They don't want to get sued for negligence. So yeah a patient/resident can't just waltz in and out without basically getting clearance.

Most average care homes are like the one in Patterson. You get a small room with a bed and presumably a chair and small desk along with a small closet, and that's it. It's like renting a bedroom in someone's house. Room and board.

I bet I will hate the place I move to at first. I'll hate the way it smells, looks, sounds and feels. I wont like the staff and other residents. I won't like the food etc. Because being autistic I despise new and different. But I know in time I'll get used to the place and it will become home. And then it will be hard to drag me away from there.

My debit card has a gold INTERAC badge on the front and taxis will accept that. Don't know about Lyft and Uber.

"Healthier and longer." That's the voice of somebody who's never tried it. My first coffee in the posh residence, I sat with an old lady who told me her family plans for Easter weekend. This was Good Friday. The plans were the usual for a relative's last Easter on earth. They were to pick her up and bring her to their home, after an hour with kids, put her to bed, wake on Easter for breakfast in bed and an hour's egg-hunt, then back to residence.

That was Good Friday. She went upstairs and hanged herself.

After 2 years, I got out of there before the same thing should come to me. Healthier and longer indeed.

I don't understand. Are you saying she would have been better off living out on the streets than in a nursing home?

This reminds me of a story from my own family. My very elderly father was being threatened by a visit from my narcissistic sister, the one who killed herself this past February. He had a bad heart and uncertain prognosis, at age 85. He told his wife, "I'd rather be dead than put up with any more of (my narcissistic sister's) drama." He meant it, too!
