Denny’s has been a nationwide chain since at least the 90s.

It didn’t reach NYC until the 2010s. One in Manhattan came and went. Maybe a couple in NYC still. One in Brooklyn for sure.

...To move around least mildly ahead with why Patterson was not suitable - There was no regular public transit there. There was not a standard bus system, from Patterson to Modesto. There was standard pt? This would have me be even more isolated, aside from what I already said about the locked house and the isolated neighborhood. There was no standard bus system. At all. (As a matter of fact, they did not even have a commercial taxi company. I wouldn't have looked to rely on that. I am pointing out without-other than standard car transportation options the area was.)
There was some ADA-Paratransit system available, rather limited. I would not have been able to apply for it until November. It would have required money each time, and not being familiar with the area it would have been hard to figure it out in advance!

the idea of a care home for someone with multiple critical illnesses is recuperation, recovery, return to health, rehabilitation, improvement, a long period of convalescence.

if someone with multiple critical illnesses wants to view such an opportunity as a loony bin and a prison and so on, it doesn't seem like there's much of a chance for recovery.

if my aunt with diabetes, chf and kidney issues had resigned herself to such a place before she was so far gone she didn't have a choice, she probably would have recovered sufficiently enough to eventually get out of there and have better accommodations. but she waited until she was past the point of no return.

Denny's is Denny's. It's true there are some chains which go by different names in different sections of the USA.

Re: Public Transportation, Patterson, CA. Moot point now, however:

1. Patterson, CA is served by Stanislaus Regional Transit (StaRT).

2. The have eight fixed route services - 10, 15, 40, 45E, 45W, 60, 61 and C. The four routes which run regularly through Patterson are 40, 45E, 45W and the Commuter line.

3. Specifically, Route 40 is the Patterson-Modesto line. It operates Monday through Friday between 5:15 a.m. and 9:12 p.m.. The bus operates nine trips between Modesto and Patterson. On Saturday between 7:00 a.m. and 7:45 p.m., five round trips are offered to Patterson. A 5th trip offers a return from Patterson at 7:00 p.m. to Modesto.

4. Fixed-route rides cost $1.80. HOWEVER, if you're a senior or DISABLED, it's 90 cents/25 cents for a transfer.

5. They also maintain a Dial-a-Ride service. It costs $1.50 for seniors and DISABLED.

6. Generally speaking, buses run from around 5am to 12am Mon to Friday, Saturdays 6am to 9pm. Nothing on Sunday.

This sucks....but it sucks less than you probably thought it sucked.....It might have been quite a long walk to get to these buses. The same thing happens in Nassau County, New York---where one has to sometimes walk many miles to get to public transportation.

Those people you were living with in Patterson should have done better giving you information.

Agreed, especially mileage. Even so, Patterson should photocopy that post and stick it up in every room. With the phone number and a disclaimer that any trips should be verified with the bus company first.

It'd probably be a long walk to Route Whatever....the main drag from Patterson to Modesto. That's where the bus would probably run. It would probably run to various of the malls in that region. It's a fairly-high populated region, so there's probably quite a few stores. Modesto has about 200,000 living there.

As far as "culture": There's probably not too much of it, in general. Unless you look in the local paper and find something in Modesto or some other decent-sized place in the region. Modesto probably has things to do culturally.

Probably, the coastal areas have lots more "culture" than the inland areas.

San Francisco would be ideal for "culture," obviously.

a shuttle service would have been available after a waiting period and that time could have been used for rest and recuperation. i don't get the desire to drag oneself all over the place when in such bad shape there's labored breathing, constant pain and worry of a heart attack. what's more valuable than better health?

...Thank you for the info, RR. I was told at the place that there were no buses. Perhaps they were ignorant of what you are writingof, PERHAPS they just didn't care or even were actively lying to me. If it was the least likely, the last...THERE would be another reason to mistrust that place, massively!
I never said anything about " culture ". Yes indeed, I do walk slowly! To-day (as it now stands, the last motel night), I was rested , was carrying less, and had some of the edibles...I walked, much of the time, painless or nearly...but perhaps even slower, not pushing/popping the bubble

...I think they wanted - Daniel, especially - the money! There's no justfication of a lie like that . And, why would they then tell the truth about the ParaTransit?
