I'm sorry, the OP's post just makes my head hurt.

The OP is ranting about a personal issue - one of the things The Haven was created to deal with.
He is expressing his opinion about a type of person which he finds irritating and while his description could be extrapolated to mean some WP members, that is not his intent. He is not making a personal attack - in fact, he puts a positive and life-affirming spin on the issue.

That same extrapolation could also be made with other issues posted to The Haven using any description: tall people, teachers, NTs, parents, etc. and to disallow certain descriptions because they might apply to WP members would require judgments to be made which would render The Haven unusable for many people.
The same applies to what someone is upset about and consequently, members are free to post about anything which upsets or annoys them irrespective of how annoying that might appear to others.

The Haven is a place where people can go to blow off steam, cry, seek help, whine, complain etc without being judged by others for doing so and the only constraint is that their posts do not break the rules.
Allowances must be made for what the reader of a post may consider irrelevant, negative, immature, aggressive etc - because to the person making the post it is a real issue causing upset or difficulties, expressed in their own way - and if all they need to do is post here and sound off about it, that too is permissible.

On the whole, people do not start threads in The Haven with the idea of creating something constructive and positive because that is not its purpose - and no negative judgement should be made about the validity of them because by their nature, those posts are often made when someone is feeling very down, very angry or very upset.
Any positive and constructive attempts made to help people creating threads here must come from others.

As to this thread and the direction it has taken:
Some posters seem to have lost sight of the broader purpose of The Haven and are attacking the OP for posting here and denigrating his reason for doing so.
This must stop immediately.
I have also removed the more overtly aggressive comments because they served no purpose other than to denigrate the OP.

If you have nothing to say by way of agreement or support then say nothing.
If all you can do is attack the OP then you are definitely posting to the wrong forum and possibly to the wrong site.
Haven't we all had enough of that in real life?
It's ridiculous I should even have to say it.

If you have concerns with any posts on WP the correct response is to report them to a moderator - and not just pile in and ridicule the OP.

@Cornflake: I think you may have missed how utterly insulting OP's post was to many here. I know I was insulted by it. If responses to such insulting posts are not helpful then perhaps such insulting posts should not be generated in the first place.

Anyone has a right to post here about things that annoy or upset them.
This includes things others might disagree with or be upset by.

This form exists specifically as a safe place where members can rant, vent, whine, cry, plead or complain with no fear of attack.

If you're unable to contribute agreement, help or any positive support to what's posted in The Haven then walk away from it.

What's wrong with playing WoW all day? I make A's in school while still playing 6-8 hours of WoW a day... :(

Doing nothing with your life is so subjective... I'm making Blizzard entertainment money! That's doing something with my life! (okay I'm trying to be funny... )

Anyway, OP yeah, people that b***h when they have material luxuries are despicable in our society, I get that. It's a matter of perspective. Suffering is great to the one experiencing it and not as much to those outside of it's effects. Being misunderstood by your own family is probably one of the worst things someone has to go through, even if they have material comforts, which don't make things not suck, just not suck as bad as being without them.

For all of you that suffer, I'm there with you and I'm sure we're doing what we can to feel better, even if it gets a bad rap... Alone is alone... suffering is suffering, in or out of context with your station in life.

Just wanted to add, I'm sorry people were harsh on your post OP, you are suffering too and my heart goes out to you, may you find happiness too! :D

Parents should be balanced in their use of discipline imo. This is seldom the case unfortunately.

I don't fault my parents for not doing anything of my life, they are good peoples. It's just that I am too pathetic for doing anything. :(

I've always felt uncomfortable with complaining about my parents taking things away, considering I'm solidly middle class and vaguely white, but that doesn't mean I never bitched about it in my childhood and early teen years. I think most 12-14 year olds are ungrateful snots, it's just part of growing up. I was one, and I'm sure most of you were at some point as well. Don't tell me you never cried or punched a wall after being grounded for something that was totally unfair. The big difference is internet access.

Because the nature of being insulted is subjective, there can be no rules against doing something that can cause someone to be insulted, nor can anyone have a right to not be insulted. Rules can only stipulate against things that are blatantly insulting. As in "You idiots who do nothing but play WoW and complain about your parents are <insert whatever prejoritive you want, multiple cussowrds, etc>" and that would be insulting.

You're applying your own subjective evaluation when you say that using cuss words is "blatantly insulting" (so it's subjective until it's not?). There are plenty of situations where people call each other names in an amicable/teasing context, and in my opinion there are much more effective ways to insult people than using cuss words or pejoratives. It's relatively easy to shrug off cuss words but if someone attacks you for your choices in life, this is much more personal and hurtful.

In my opinion the OP was insulting by insinuating that people who play WoW or "do nothing with their lives" or complain about their parents have a despicable character flaw, that they really don't understand that they're "playing the game of life" and that they really should be going outside. But you're right, that's subjective.

Right, it's subjective. I put the thing about cusswords because even though I do use them as adjectives and a lot even in normal conversation, if I want to insult someone I'll call them a <cussword other cussword>.

We don't have a right to not be offended by others opinions of how we live our lives or what we do or say. All that crap is legal to do and none of us have a right to not be offended. I do think the one poster is looking for offense and blowing things up everywhere and taking everything way too personally. I can name a handfull of times he's done it here. It's not a character flaw or his fault or anything, but it is something that isn't normal and that he needs to recognize and adress with a professional. Because we know his tendancies, we can overlook an overreaction or try to word our responses to him in a way that won't provoke him, but other people won't do that.

The OP has a right to think and say what he does. I may not agree with it, you may not agree with it, Joe Blow down the street may not agree with it, but he can still say it. Somebody could post here "I think women who choose to be housewives and stay at home mothers are horrible, and they are setting us back 20 years and they have no right to do what they do or complain!" and while I may type a stinging rebuttal to that and be offended by it, I have no reason to run to a mod and demand they stop the words that upset (or is it "trigger"?) me.

We are adults. We have at least average intelligence. While many of us may not have the social skills to get elected to public office, that doesn't mean that we can't simply type a response to what we read that upsets us. Nobody expects eloquence here and nobody will laugh at the lack of it.

If we can't grow the f*ck up here, interacting with each other, then who in their right mind would ever want to demand that the rest of society change their ways to accomodate us?

Come on folks, thicken the skin up a little and grow up some. It's not always all about you.

I had to learn how to man up and soldier on, but it took enlisting in the military at the age of 32 to make it happen.

You make it sound so simple. A lot of us suffer from depression that makes it extremely difficult to find the motivation to do anything. It isn't a simple matter of just getting up and doing something. It also doesn't help to have people calling us b*****s and saying it's our own fault our lives are messed up. Yes, I agree that people need to get up and do something with their lives, and sitting around bitching and complaining does not help. But for many of us it has to be a gradual process of self-improvement. You can't just snap out of a bad depression.

^ Wow was just thinking the same thing today. I think the OP though is referring to spoiled people rather, which some are out there (the lucky ones).
