Have you asked him for advice at any point? He clearly understands how to be likable to other people so he might have some helpful insights that you could get use out of.

If you have tried this and he has blown you off though, then there is no reason to keep him in your life as far as I am concerned. If someone is an overwhelmingly negative influence in your life and they consistently bring in far more bad than good, it does not make sense to keep trying to maintain a relationship with them or even keep up with how they are doing, especially if they express contempt for you.

Also, he may not be doing as well as you assume he is. Screw trying to be a better him than he is anyway. Be the most competent and maximized version of yourself that you can be and have such an outrageously awesome life that you forget to care at all about what he is doing or how he thinks of you.

He's been outshining me even more lately. The Meet Up group I used to be a member of now goes to his business and even my co-workers talk about it as well.

i hope, Marknis, that you can at least get some cold comfort from the fact that a distinguished actor/artist/director/producer/businessman named robert redford, admitted in an interview that he felt so diminished in the presence of his [much more accomplished] co-star paul newman [in various movies] that he felt like his life wasn't worth continuing.

My brother “outshines” me as well. He is a millionaire, and I’m in debt.

Doesn’t mean I give a s**t. It just is, and I must move on from it.

Well if we're sharing sibling stories mine has met those major anticipated milestones for the mid 30s and I have not.

But it's not a competition. I don't feel less of a person. I suppose it helps that we are good friends too.

The only one of my brother, sister and I who has done quite well is my sister. Am I jealous of her? No. I've never been particularly competitive.

Your brother is either brighter (outshine), neither or less bright than you

Only three options

My older brother and stepfather always rant about liberals and how much they love Trump whenever they are in the same room together.

My brother has always outshined me, but I don’t mind. I look up to him.

Depression sometimes makes me feel guilty for talking about others but it's worn off now.

Someone who I thought was a friend attended an event at my older brother's brewery. I feel betrayed by her.
