I feel the same way. It feels like even if i change my country i'll never be free the way some people are and it's depressing.

Hawaii was annexed by the US back in 1898. That was the starting point of it being "part of the US".

It just didn't achieve statehood until 1959.

As with most of the other states, it went through the stage of being a "territory" before it was granted statehood. But it was still part of the US.

I feel that way about most of the planet or the ones inhabited by humans. People in general feel tribalistic and prejudge each other before wishing them dead. It’s especially hard when one has trouble communicating effectively so as not to be misconstrued or treated in a hostile or biased way.
