You shouldn't be arguing with your therapist. It wastes your time and annoys your therapist.

Find a different therapist. If you run into the same thing, find another different therapist.

Not necessarily, I know my friend was annoyed his didn't argue with him enough, although it is fair to say you don't want a therapist that you can out argue with your arms tied behind your back.

That therapist doesn't sound very good. First of all I take exception to people who pretend to be open minded but are really pushing an alternative view and are less that open minded about people who disagree with them. Secondly she is beating a dead horse and a decent therapist would reevaluate at that point. Lastly if she really was skilled she probably would have convinced you. That is what my ex shrink did. Believe me I was the last person would would try something called 'insight meditation'. I did and it was really good. It works because it is quite simply focusing your mind. So you don't take in all the noise but are able to focus on a few things but in greater detail, it make you feel much calmer. Even with that it was only a suggestion/idea. There is no spirituality required to do insight meditation, I am an atheist. Btw you might want to read this on the subject if you are cynical:

Greantea - your therapist sounds a bit desperate for ideas, I think the profession is quite a tricky one, without the intuition, and skills of the therapist it might not be constructive for either party.

Well, she's all I can afford, and as someone once said on a thread: "My therapist is my paid friend". Nowadays I only see her once in a blue moon, when I feel talking to her is better than spending a whole year talking to the wall.

And her therapy did me a world of good in the first couple years.

Mr. Mark, that was a brilliant post. Lots of food for thought, and the therapy you suggest sounds wonderful.

That is good. So maybe I was a bit over eager to stick the knife in. Do you think you had more of an objective those years. I think it is good to work to some sort of objective, even if you are not sure about every detail. Well with me it is anyway.
