If the police can't do anything then a little street justice would sort it. From previous posts I've seen you could sort that between your boyfriend and colleagues.

The only problem would be if he pressed charges and the police found out who did it

From a moral POV though, he would deserve everything he gets

Exactally, It can't be too hard for a small group to jump a guy fairly anonymously either.
