Well gee, thanks a lot. That really helps my confidence, that does. So if it never goes away permanently...I have every reason to still feel like I'm a lousy person, that cannot be trusted. GREAT!
Sorry for the lateness of this response, but since my probation has been officially up 10 days ago, I felt it was appropriate.

You know what that means? I am now automatically NO better then people who rob liquor stores, beat their wives' to a bloody pulp, refuse to pay alimony, and molest little children!! ! Even if I do stay out of trouble and it's wiped clean after a full year, just simply KNOWING I had one in the first place doesn't make me feel any better!
Bottom line...I am SCUM. I am SH*T. I do not deserve to be treated like a human being. Ever again.
"Make ONE mistake...you pay for it the rest of your life." That's my motto.

Come on, dont be that hard on yourself.
You did what you did, and that was keyscratching. Nothing less but also nothing more.
Dude, take a chill pill.
Now I don't really want to explore why you did it, there is no point, what's done is done now, but the guy even said to you that the records would be wiped clean if you just behave for over a year, of course they keep a 'criminal record' because if you ever did something like it again they would have info to fall back on, maybe you should look at it as a deterrent as opposed to who you are, I'm sure if you placed your file next to the guy of a murderer or rapist it would not look like you were a criminal.
In the grand scheme of things, I wouldn't let one day affect the rest of your life.

Well, that's the way YOU handle it.

You're not crazy or psychotic, you're a flagellant. You're bad and you need to be spanked (Where's a winky emoticon when you need one?!
Lovely use of sarcasm there...you f**knut
I don't think I'm better than anyone else, and I never said that either. If anything, I'm think I'm FAR less important than any credible member of the human race. (efutc)
Oh, and here's your damn winky emoticon
Yes, I know this thread is almost 2 years old, but I had to get this off my chest; I don't care if it makes me an a**hole, it's my thread.
First of all, you can try to have some self compassion, second I think the fact that you seem so neurotic about trivial stuff is a bigger problem then a misdemeanor, that no employer is going to care that much about , or even know of.
Maybe yea you should feel a little guilty about it, and some regret is productive here, but there's no need to feel toxic shame like you're irredeemably bad now . most people would see that as nothing in the context of the nasty word 'criminal'. Especially if your a teenager. most people will just think "well that's how teenagers are, they over react to things and they're prone to vandalism.
But even then, most who do that do it for fun, so what you're even less blameworthy, and the fact that even care to that extent is proof by itself that you have plenty of morals.
And I honestly I do the same things sometimes, when I'm in a bad mood and I'm looking for a catharsis. Like I've knocked random trash cans over and stepped on peoples flowers and stuff. The other night, I came close to almost smashing someones windshield with a rock, and I tried to knock down a Snoopy themed mailbox .
I know It's stupid, and I'm not proud of myself, but It's not really that big a deal and I just forget about. If nothing else, and you still want to see yourself that way, then keep in mind at least that everyone else is at least just as bad if not worse.

*nods* I wish I had your optimism. I guess my low self-esteem and lack of self-worth comes from a lifetime of being bullied all through my school years. But I suppose I'm feeling better now. As my namesake would say, I'm not a bad person, I just made a bad decision.
Thank you for giving me some kind words. ^_^

You're not scum, you're a perfectionist who isn't perfect. Which I used to be too, until life beat the perfectionism out of me one inch at a time. My 25-year-old self would literally rather have died than become a "failure" like I am today. He was wrong.
Sometimes it IS worth knowing how other people judge you. There's a scale of scum. Man who rapes and murders children: lowest pit of evil, hated even by other criminals. Racist murderer: scum scum f*****g scum. Burglar, armed: very bad. Burglar, unarmed: slightly less bad. Shoplifter....
In my book, "man who scratches up cars" is morally about level with "man who chucks cans in the street." And a long, long way above "Man who sells weapons to corrupt and violent countries, but perfectly legally." I'd sooner trust you than the men in suits who run the place. At least you have a conscience.

Thank you, my friend. I'm sorry for bringing up such an old thread, I guess I'm still trying to wrestle with the notion that I am still a good person on the inside.
And to Kraftie, thank you too. I'll try to keep my chin up.
