To the people who do nothing with their lives.

It is.

A lot of us suffer from depression that makes it extremely difficult to find the motivation to do anything.
In less than 6 months, I endured losing my job, the death of my grandfather, the deaths of 9 friend in one crash, the loss of my home, a divorce, and the loss of my relatives' love and respect. I was so numb with depression that I nearly froze to death one Christmas Eve, not 20 feet from a church's unlocked doors. The only thing that got me going was the desire to NOT be eaten by the stray dogs in the area.

It isn't a simple matter of just getting up and doing something. It also doesn't help to have people calling us b*****s and saying it's our own fault our lives are messed up.
I have stopped letting other people's opinions have any effect on my self-esteem -- no one can make you feel bad about yourself without your cooperation.

Yes, I agree that people need to get up and do something with their lives, and sitting around bitching and complaining does not help. But for many of us it has to be a gradual process of self-improvement. You can't just snap out of a bad depression.
It took me almost ten years.
BUT IT CAN BE DONE!! !

I know it can be done. I'm doing it. You say it took you 10 years, so I take it you will agree with me when I said it was a gradual process. Where I took issue was the OP suggesting that if you have any problems at all and can't immediately snap out of any funk you may happen to be in, you are a whiny b***h and all your problems are your own fault.

Grrr...

I would have resorted to violence, but I also did not want a criminal record to deal with.

^ Wow was just thinking the same thing today. I think the OP though is referring to spoiled people rather, which some are out there (the lucky ones).
Yea, considering the age of the OP, there definitely are people like that in his age range. Maybe not spoiled so much as ignorant and sheltered from reality. I don't think the majority of people who post on this forum fit that category as most are adults who have experienced "the real world" in all it's glory.

Yea. The reality is low self-esteem and other issues may trigger depression but once you've got it there's an internal chemical component that really interferes with motivation and being insulted doesn't exactly make you feel like trying harder. I'm over feeling inadequate and existing to prove something to society or other people, but I still find it difficult to see the point in wanting to exist when things get overwhelming and it just seems to go on and on and on. If it was really just "self pity" I would have been "over it" a long time ago.

That's not what I intended. The original post was aimed at people who lurk around the Internet and blast the threads with their bullcrap about how much their life sucks when they don't suck.
Dude, you're 18. You don't know s**t. And you certainly don't know s**t about these people's lives. Just because they come to complain about their parents, it doesn't mean there isn't other s**t going on in their lives. Or even if it is just their parents, maybe their parents are extremely abusive and have been their whole lives? You don't have a clue what's going on in someone's life, and what the hell was the point of this thread?
