Actually people with OCD are simply doing God's work, some guy I met on the street told me so and I believed him.

A comment in response to dktekno’s post. I am new to the forum and this is my first post. I have a diagnosis for OCD, it is very likely that I also have AS or some other ASD however a diagnosis is not easy to get for an adult requiring a duel diagnosis or indeed any diagnosis of an ASD. I have an adult son with diagnosed AS.
It is becoming more accepted now amongst mental health professionals that OCD is a neurological disorder. In my opinion there is a relationship between OCD and autism and indeed of course OCD often presents with many people on the spectrum. I have a website which focuses upon OCD and other anxiety disorders and also a blog and explanation why I believe I may also have AS - which incidentally if you were to read it and give me your opinion I would be appreciative: Links to the aforementioned at the end of this message
Before becoming aware of the possibility that in addition to OCD I may have AS I wrote an autobiography called ‘Demons of the mind: A memoir of an obsessive compulsive.’ After reading this post I am seriously considering changing the title, as I would not care for anyone to take the title literally.
In the beginning of my full blown OCD most of the obsessions and compulsions where of a religious nature and much of what I describe in my memoir beginning with Chapter Seven could well lead anyone, with the appropriate belief system, to quite well believe that I was and still am possessed of a demon. And during this time in my life when I was beset by these awful thoughts, which appeared to come into my mind entirely of their own volition, there where times when even against my better judgement I considered that I was possessed. These thoughts where of a blasphemous nature. However rather than the medieval concept of demonic possession after a time I began to consider this phenomenon in a more modern context. Therefore instead of the medieval style demon or evils spirit I began to consider the notion that there may live in dimensions which exist right alongside our own, of which we are not aware, incorporeal beings. Indeed science gives serious consideration to the existence of such alternative or parallel universes or dimensions. I had the idea that in such hypothetical planes of existence there could exist incorporeal beings, which through countless eons of evolution now exist as pure energy and are able to torment those of us who are susceptible by implanting thoughts of this nature, thoughts experienced by an OCD sufferer. A ridiculous notion I am sure and it was only considered hypothetically and was no doubt the result of my reading or watching too much Sci fi, but in the dark moments when one is alone with ones thoughts, which is in reality all the time, such notions occur particularly as at the time I had no idea what was happening to me, I had never heard of OCD or obsessional neurosis as it was once called.
Now of course for the most part I believe OCD like autism to be neurological but still there is that odd pang of fear which sadly is so easily ignited by comments such as those of this poster, which of course he or she is entitled to make as indeed during the throes of severe OCD with religious obsessions it is quite easy to believe one is being tormented by demons. And who knows, we can prove that something exists but we cannot prove that it doesn’t although I think that demonic possession or influence is extremely unlikely. I continue to get these thoughts from time to time despite not being committed to any religious belief and for the most part I am agnostic even atheist.
OCD is a most bizarre condition, you are in a way divided against yourself, compelled to adhere to obsessions and compulsions which in the cold light of day you know are ludicrous. Yet at times these thoughts are terrifyingly real and in the beginning of the manifestation of OCD when I had no insight these notions at times took on psychotic proportions. For six agonsing months I did not question the appropriateness of my thoughts or my behaviours.
Yes indeed it is possible to mistake such thoughts as demonic possession or influence. Had I read this post when this manifestation of OCD first presented I would have been scared indeed.
One last comment to dktekno you are not a moron or dumb or whatever other derogatory things you said about yourself. People with OCD are above average intelligence, Howard Hughes for example, who incidentally I consider may also have had AS.
OCD is a neurological disorder and is therefore not your fault.

It covered everything from talking back to mass murder. Psychologists said some kids are troublemakers, and should be locked up. If you could just get rid of a few bad apples, everything would be perfect.
When that did not work, when casting us out did not solve the problems, they were not called charitans, they invented new disorders, which could all be treated with Amphetimines, and Barbituates. Children, adults, they did not care, everybody had problems, and they had pills.
In a short burst of common sense, in 1972, when it was found that almost a third of the population was on pills, most truck drivers, bodies were showing up everywhere, due to no warning what barbituates and vodka would do, uppers and downers were banned, and the real problem was discovered.
The Tetra Ethel Lead in gas was everywhere, the whole country was suffering from lead poisoning, children had IQs 10 to 20 points lower than expected, the schools were failing to teach, and lead was banned. Hundreds of millions of tons of lead were everywhere. The damage would continue.
The EPA was an emergency program, the problems could be stopped and were, but the damage had been done and would continue. People showed strange symtoms, and were medicated for mental problems. Some were undergoing drug withdrawal, they had been on pills for years, they wanted more pills.
Those born between 1950 and 1970 got a big dose of lead before five, where it does real damage. An industry sprang up to medicate them for mental problems. The parents were on uppers and downers, the kids on lead, and lead free kids were born about 1980, maybe not lead free, but low lead.
As they grew up we had a real burst of technology. Everybody had a computer, and thoughts. The leaded kids had become adults and settled down into the workforce.
This left a whole pill pushing industry without customers. People were told their children were hyperactive and needed to be put on Ritlin. Perhaps the kids were normal, and their parents failed parenting due to lead, and the kids were reacting to leaded parents, who took tranks, for their mental condition, and were going through life as zombies.
The kids acted like we all did in 1950.
About 1990 a whole slew of new conditions were created. 2,000,000 of us never had a problen with AS, we just lived. Now there is treatment, and I do not like the results, I think it does more harm than good.
Variations of humans have always been around. Suddenly they were the new pill market. They always fit in before, now they take pills and cannot function, so they take more pills, and it gets worse, and the pill industry was saved.
AS to me is why I hold Patents, write and publish books, and have enjoyed a long and interesting life, mostly spent reading, making studies of things of interest. It was not for a Degree, or for work, but because that is what I liked to do. Now I must be depressed because I am in denial about being unhappy?
Having a business is proof of an anti-social nature, and there are pills to treat me for this imaginary condition. I will stick to the view, that Psychobabbling pill priests are selling a false religion in tablet form.
I perfer traditional views on spiritual matters. A Creator to which we are still connected, a soul, and that good is the direction of life. There are paths to a life well lived. I will take the view of all time over the words of a lead poisoned generation.
My complaint is, that just as we should be recovering from the lead, turing out bright children again, intelligence has been defined as a mental condition. Some truth to that, but the idea that they should be made like normal lead poisoned people with pills, that I doubt.

It can be useful, but it is not stable enough to take as a final answer. Some of it's newer branches, the soft sciences, have no factual background. I remember Skinner running rats through mazes, and how his studies became applied to humans. If rats do A, then humans will do A, compares apples with oranges. It is not science.
I saw the rise of the New Religion, nothing about the philosophy of a life well lived, but a lot of jumping up and down to rock music, and babbling Christian sounding things. Mega churches, televangilist, air conditioned dog houses and theme parks with water slides for Jesus. I think most never read the book, they just saw the movie, and you know Hollywood.
There is human wisdom in the longer tradition. Christians know this. The water slides aside, people looking for meaning. The Bible is old. But we now know that the story of the flood and Noah was from Gilgamesh, and was written down 5,000 years before, in Sumer, cuniform on tablets of clay. The Book of Job is from the Ras Sharmin Text, from the Temple of Baal, it is a good part of the whole, but Baal was replaced. The Ten Commandments are listed in the Egyptyian Book of the Dead, Chapter 125.
Everyone was trying to say they found more to life than nothing, that good does win, if not everytime, if there are hard times, it is still the best path.
Good and Evil. We have to have words. Both come to us from beyond the range of our senses. I have seen enough to convince me that it is not random, there are forces, beings, and that the world got along just fine without the science of the last fifty years. Science has become speculation. It is no longer a search for truth, it is a search for markets.
No one here has said, I took this pill, and poof! My problem was solved.
If the marketing is true, if the pills being used are needed, where are the examples from the past, before the pill existed? I was there, people just went on about their lives. Everyone had up and downs, they passed. But they do not pass for those taking pills, and quiting has some real horror stories.
Heroin would work better, well tested, you will never get a cold or suffer from allergies, at 40 you will look 25, and most just mature out, suddenly lose interest about 45. You will never be bored or depressed. It does not interfer with work or a social life, does not inhibit talents. It builds confidence and develops social understanding.
Strangely enough people have been reporting total and permanant cures through spitirual means for thousands of years. Evil spirits were cast out, and people returned to being their old selves, and stayed that way. Lordes has quite a collection of crutches, braces, wheel chairs, and thousands of testements to the healing power. It is a spring, and they go way back as beiing sacred place that evil spirits cannot stand, so they flee the afflicted.
Could be they were all lying, could be psychosomatic, could be evil spirits, but it did work. No one is building shrines around drug company headquarters.
If you want science and pills, it is your life, if you want good health, good food, living and growing, it is your life, and if you want to look within, seek the spirit, the knowledge and traditions that have lasted through time, it is your life.
All I can really know is I grew up before pills, before lead, was one strange kid, but went work at 14, learned many skills, became self employed, very good with computers, since 1963, and had plenty of time to read, and have hobbies. My life turned out fine. I discovered I was not alone in the Universe, and being somewhat antisocial, that presence has been a friend and teacher through my life.
Good times and bad, it has always been my centering force, and so far it works. My testament to anyone considering taking the spiritual path is, it worked for me, I say go for it. The Creator is non-religious, all are welcome. I never saw it as limited. Botany, Geology, I asked, and was given deeper insight. This is the real deal.
