But I'm looking for someone who doesn't exist.

I admit that I haven't read most of this thread, Tim, but what did you do? Did you tell someone to go and fork himself when he desperately needed to be told to do that? If you did you deserve a pat on the back. Sometimes you have to explode. It's part of living a normal life. Yes, some people will try to say that you did something wrong or pathological because you have AS or something. They are wrong. And don't you hate the cry of "I thought you were different!"? I would tell the ladies that I don't have to be different about everything. I have a body, arms, legs, head, a penis, and exactly the same biology as everyone else, so exactly what does she expect?

Screw it. NTs aren't normal either.

That's not how I exploded or vented.

Sorry. I just meant that I don't think you have to feel weird about it. Look at how so-called normals act. Maybe they work out their issues by destroying people who are members of minorities.

I will only date liberal Aspie females who aren't asexual, and who like South Park (or any other TV show of that caliber).

Although not required, I prefer she be at least 25 years of age.

welcome to Lawton, methlab and redneck capitol of the world. I know that place well. The most culture you will see there is at the military base. I do know however that there is a turnpike that will take you all the way up to oklahoma city, norman and edmond. There are a little more open minded people up there. If you have free time, then check it out. I believe i have sent you some different places to check out on another thread. hang in there. there are aspies in western oklahoma. I am from Clinton... an equally challenging place. I had to move to the 'big city' to get far.

I went up to Mt. Scott just last week, between Lawton and Chickasha. I discovered I like hiking. (My family came up from Houston to visit me). As far as the big cities go, I am actually closer to the Metroplex, but thanks for letting me know about what they have in OKC.

My husband felt the same way, as did I! I waited 30 years for this...an aspie guy to compliment my aspie-ness. It hurt. It took time. I gave up, went to college, and found a job during that I loved...and there he was! I wasn't even looking so I was technically off the market. We became friends.
You need to just go about your life. The right person will come to you...just be patient. It is worth the wait! I promise.

You seem so nice. You are so intelligent. You WILL find someone.

Tim,

I'm glad your school/professional life is sorting out. Of course one's personal life can be just as important, if not more so, and it's often harder to sort out.

It's counterintuitive but true, that the harder you try to find someone, the harder it becomes. If you're focused, concentrated, and desperate to meet somebody, women can sense it. Women can tell when a guy is desperate or "trying too hard," and it's a major turn-off for them. Women like a guy who is confident and conveys strength, self-assuredness, and stability (well, non-dysfunctional ones do).

Always be open to the prospect of meeting somebody special in your daily course of events (you may be pleasantly surprised), but never go specifically pursuing it (you will surely be disappointed).

BTW, I'm very surprised you can't find Libertarian women near a college.

And to make matters worse, I sent a MySpace friend request to an Aspie friend who was liberal and single (but didn't like South Park), and was willing to do a long-distance relationship, and she turned me down--very uncharacteristic of her.

This isn't a new friend, I had been corresponding with her for a while.

Are you sure you're not being maybe a wee bit picky? There probably aren't very many women at all who watch South Park.

I have come across quite a few that like South Park. In fact, I have come across quite a few Aspie women that do. But they were all either (a) not looking for a relationship, or (b) already in one. This friend was liberal, and didn't like South Park. Lowering my standards hasn't made any difference.

Well, I mean, there are a lot more serious issues than what TV shows you like to watch. For example, do you want a family with kids? Can you even stand each other? Does she have a pleasant personality, or does she like to nag and complain?

There are a lot of couples where the man and woman have different interests. The man might like hunting and fishing, or bowling, or watching sports. The woman might like cooking or shopping. If you have somewhat different interests, then you can each go off and do your own thing, and get together for dinner. I knew some that were together 24 hours per day, and wound up driving each other crazy and eventually divorcing.

I can't understand why a certain TV show would be a necessity. For me, smoking would be a disqualification. If we liked some of the same TV shows, that would be fine. If she liked to watch different TV shows, that would also be fine.

I was looking for someone who was liberal, and I figured that if someone who watches a show that has all the cuss words and mature situations that South Park has, then she is liberal (I don't really see and socially/politically conservative people watching shows like that).

I'd certainly tread carefully dating someone who didn't like South Park.

I was just trying to open my options here. I am wondering if I set my standards too high.
