Every now and then I've used 'stupid people' or 'idiots' as an insult, usually when my knowledge and dignity are both challenged at once.

I know I've gotten really steamed when called a loser before. 'Loser' is like my N-word. So I decided to ask out of fairness: How much offense would you take to being called an idiot or a stupid person?

I don't mean to imply that any of you are stupid, as you seem superior to those on many other internet forums in this respect.

I got over the "stupid" insult in 5th grade.

My arrogance grants me immunity to such pathetic insults.

I know I'm smarter than the person calling me stupid. If they were as smart as me, they'd see I was smart.

Thus, if they can't see I'm smart/er than them, they're the idiot. Thus I revel in their hypocrisy.

It amuses me, honestly. Then I usually return fire with a stream of insults calling into question their intelligence, parental relations...etc etc.

Exactly my thoughts.

But not this. People who insult me are not worth even bothering to respond to.

If it's used in the right context, it really pisses me off. Joking around, or used lightly, it's not a problem at all, even funny. But if someone says something like "What are you, stupid?" in an obviously insulting manner, I am not happy about it. All humor goes out the door when they use that certain, condescending voice. :ncool:

It all stems from childhood emotional abuse, but that's a different story.

Just like any insult, it hurts the most if
-It comes from someone you respect and/or trust
-You believe it a little yourself

But it also depends hugely on context. And just general if someone's already feeling bad, they can overreact to something and become in an even worse mood pretty quickly. (So best not to insult someone who seems, for example, tired, sad or angry.)

But not everyone cares. It varies between individuals.

not very much. i dont find "loser" to be very bad either, in fact most insults are pretty bland. now if someone digs up something personal and uses it against me, then maybe ill get insulted "your hair is ugly! >:I"

I've been called stupid hundreds of times, despite the fact that I've been getting the highest grades in the school.

I have got an A* in maths and science, and the A* in maths means that I'm currently doing the best in maths in my whole entire school. So you wouldn't expect anyone to be calling me stupid would you? You'd be wrong. Even my own friend calls me stupid and says that I am a 'fool'.
