Reading all those threads is causing me a sensory overload, but I feel like you and I hope It'll be alright with you all. Uhh.... I hope I could just hug you all, but it is not possible. So please feel free to hug me back. I'm not making any sense, am I, it's just that for a moment I could sense you all and that was way too much.

I know- I was going to post something haven-esque last night, because I come here when I am hurting too. Then I started trying to help someone else...which always feels better than dwelling on my own stuff.

Who says we lack empathy? Who does? Your post reminds me of that one great scene in Star Wars where Princess Leia's planet is destroyed and Obi-Wan Kenobi senses the disruption in the Force.

((((hugs to all))))

Yeah. As much as I want to help, I sometimes just can't read the stuff here as it hits home and hurts me all too much. It just gets overwhelming. Empathy is powerful. Take care, people.

Only all the time. Especially in the middle of the night.

Some of us have such deep empathy that there is complete shutdown.

Here's the "too much empathy" study- an article about it, anyway...

I'm definitely strongly empathetic. It's so strong that I work hard to NOT feel anything at all, because once I start feeling something it just washes over me. However, I seem to mostly pickup the base emotions: fear, anger, sadness, love. The actual nuances seem to be lost on me, although I've often wondered if that's because the "gain" on my empathy is set so high that the nuance is overpowered and lost.

What I CAN'T do is read body language worth a damn, at least not without thinking about it carefully, which is rather hard to do when trying to actually hold a conversation.
