First of all, you are not worthless. Blame everything on the stupid economy...
Above all, think POSITIVE. In these unstable, difficult economic times, it is important to "always look on the bright side of life"...
It's hard to be truly positive when you are casting blame on anything, but in general I agree with what you're saying. It took me longer than that to get a job (and it took me over a year to actually get a "good" job) after I graduated, and the economy was fine then. Staying positive is key, but on top of that I'd suggest lowering the bar and just getting a s**t job for the time being. It will probably help your state of mind just knowing that money is actually coming in. Then, as soon as you start the job, start looking for a better one in your free time. A place is more likely to hire someone who already has a job than someone who is unemployed--I mean BY FAR more likely. I understand the principle, but I don't get the degree to which it's true, it's pretty staggering.
Edit: and what zsazsa said about internships and volunteer work... I agree, those look good as well when trying to get a job, even if they do not pay the bills in the meantime.
