Being a Republican-voting Christian at a college that is somewhat of a "Berkeley Lite" (in Texas, no less!) doesn't help.
And many of the people who have the same interests as me tend to fall into the "artsy hipster" category, and I wouldn't fit in with them because of my religious and political beliefs.
Yet my interests turn off fellow conservatives.
I'm not one of those gun-toting, Bible-thumping rednecks who has country music blaring out of a pickup truck at full blast. I like animated sitcoms, indie/foreign films, indie music, art, and being outdoors.
Besides the two friends at school, I know nobody here. My best friend lives in Houston, as does my family. Everybody else lives in areas as spread out as California, Minnesota, Connecticut, and other countries.
I am in the same position at my university. I have some friends but feel somewhat alienated from them as our beliefs in politics and religion are completely different. I don't fit in particularly well with them as they can be pot smokers, have lots of sex, drink alot, etc., that I don't have much interest in.
