I'm unclear as to what the problem is. Unless and until someone wants you to leave, it sounds like a workable situation.
If you are uncomfortable, then do whatever it takes to find steady work quickly. I know that's tough these days in the U.S., and I just read a detailed article above life in Maine during the recession. But without a place to go, you are fortunate to have a place to stay.
I recall something similar happening to someone I once knew. Her solution was to start doing housework regularly so that she felt she was contributing to the household since she was no longer "formally" (in her words) a part of it. Does that help?
