Local Aspies?

I'm on the tail end of a long divorce and have become completely isolated over the last 2 years. Partly that "our friends" were first and foremost her friends, and that I'm a workaholic.

How can one find local aspies? I have neither the inclination nor time off in the middle of the week for the few counseling groups around. I've joined several "active singles" and other sites, though they rarely do something when I have time - Friday nights and the weekend. The usual NT haunts such as bars send me screaming. Otherwise... I'm intelligent, driven, yet very lonely.

Why just restrict yourself and make your life more lonely and difficult trying to find local Aspies?

Get involved in activities in your community in whatever "free" time you have. Join a local church group, do some VOLUNTEER work at your local hospital, a nursing home, your public library, a youth organization, an animal shelter...wherever your interest lie.

Learn a new skill, take a college course or take up a hobby...soon you will discover new "friends" right in your own community.

I found my Aspie friends at Community College. Just go to the disability department right after you join the college and say that you want to start an Asperger's group and if they can contact some students that have Asperger's. My group was short lived but at least I meet some good friends there. :)

Try advertising for an Asperger's group and see what happens. :)
